Title: Can bar ends pop out?
Post by: wattersk on January 31, 2008, 01:57:16 PM
Can the inside of the stock handlebars be removed? Can they pop out, and if so, how?

Thanks

drill them, but just beware that lighter ends will increase vibration

Right. I had thought of that but didn't want to go that far.

I dont think you can drill them out, unless you have some pretty awesome drill bits.. I tried and got no where... I just got new bars  :thumb:

Put a screw in the threads, tie it to a string, pull the string through a small piece of pipe or a small socket, SMACK it with a hammer twice. viola, pull out the slug.

I mean, that's how I did it.

when i put the 89 triple and clip ons on my F model i took the stock bars put them in a vice and went at them with a drill.   eventually i got them out and put in the standard bar ends with the rubber ends.  to be honest they did not seem that secure.  i have the same light alum bar ends on my bike and they have yet to fail

Just a thought, those bar ends should do a good job of preventing the naked end of the handle bars stabbing through your soft mid section in the event of a crash.

Fond memories of -not- being stabbed through the mid section by a mountain bike handle bar come to mind...
