Well,
Being that my bike was knocked over I had broken turn signals. Soooo I decided to go the LED route. The front ones went on without a hitch well, had to add a washer and PVC valve gasket to extend them out for they were smaller than I anticipated. But, with matching back ones I thought it would balance out and they look good.
The PROBLEM occured when I was placing the last light on. The left back one went on without a problem. When I cut the wires on the back right one well that's another story. :dunno_white: I did a quick test before I clamped the wires in. The lights would not come on while the key was just turned to ON. When I turned the engine on and activated the turn signals they flashed like hazard lights which they never did before. When the engine is off if I jiggle the switch back and forth the lights will flicker.
Can anyone please tell me what I DID ?!?!?!?! This is driving me :cookoo: ! I need an answer ASAP so I can ride it to work tomorrow. I live and Florida and this is the best time for riding!
Thanks,
Mary
check the wiring to make sure they are done right. that white stator that came with the led kit is more trouble than it is worth...don't bother using them.
they LED kit did not come with a stator. I undid the other light and still having those issues. Guess I could try and put the old one back on and see if I still have the problem
More info appreciated!
Mary
where at in florida
my guess is not enough resistance from the LEDs, if the old ones work fine pick up a new flasher relay that work w/ LEDs
a thought just poped into my peabrain but are all four flashers LED? mine are and i have never mixed them so my advise may be in error
Hey,
These lights are the same as on the front that worked just fine but now they too just flash. It almost seems as if the problem could be in the handle bar. when I get out of the hospital.
nastynate I live in Kissimmee.

Did you still have the stock ones on the back when the front ones worked? if so its because the stock signals were creating just enough resistance to counter the led fronts. What you need is to go replace your flasher relay with and electronic relay. If that doesn't fix it then you can start looking at the switches.
mary is in hospital right now so i don't think she is working on the bike. last i heard she is using a PSP to send e-mail. get well soon :thumb:
i had a similar problem when installing license-plate-bracket-mounted rear turn signals. i opened the problem signal up to find a less-than-perfect soldering job. cleaned it up, and the signal works fine now!
Remove the idiot light in your dash. If you have four LED blinkers, there is less resistance through all of them than there is through the idiot light to ground so they all flash. If you get a 3 pin eloectronic relay for LEDs and run a wire from the third pin to your dash idiot light you will be sweet again.

Where would I get a 3 pin resistor @ ? @ autozone or moto shop?
Thanks Frankie for letting everyone know why I wasn't replying. For some reason when the heart don't work you don't either!
Mary
You will probably be able to buy an LED specific indicator relay from the same place you bought the LED indicators. The GS5 uses the 2-pin type, just take the old one out and plug the new one in.
They look like this.

Any local auto part store should be able to get you an electronic flasher relay. Might want to remove the relay from the bike and bring it with you.
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to motos. where exactly will I find the resistor? Still in the hospital now my Crohn's is flaring. :(

Mary
The relay( not resistor) is located under the right side rear plastic.
Awesome! Can't wait to get out and try it! It was 85 today and sunshining :( I want out!
Mary
Day 12 in the hospital will I ever get out?!?!? They are supposed to start a new treatment called remecaid if that don't do it may have to call in a surgeon!
Anyhow when I finally escape will I need a realay and a resistor or will one or the other suffice? Thank God my church friends brought me my laptop writing on the PSP was getting treacherous.
Thanks,
Mary
i hate the hospital, i spent two months straight there and the only reason they let me out is cuz my mother is a nurse and she said she would take care of me. i hope you het well soon. btw i did not even know you could e-mail on a psp until you told me last week
yeah,
I love the little suckers wi-fi connection. It is a true life saver was able to get bills paid and play some Madden 08 on the side. It is well worth the 129 when you frequent the hosptials as much as I do!
So, Frankie what keeps you off your gs? I've spilled my guts with the Crohn's and heart problem. It is good sometimes just to have someone understand what you are going through. Just looking out the window seeing the sun shining and like 70 degrees outside is torture here in Florida. At least up north you can say well at least the weather is krappy outside. There is so much I wanna do to the bike but I can barely get out of the hospital bed which at 27 sucks. Well, enough of my whining. I'll be out one day and my baby will be by myside again. I don't know just riding the bike lets me forget the problems once in a while.
Mary ;)
other than the weather keeping me off the bike, i was going through chemo for a year and i am still just recovering from it.

relay would be the better route and much less trouble. Must be pretty hard to write with a psp since it doesnt have a touch screen, i use the wi-fi on my Itouch alll the time but it has a touch screen so typing is very easy.
Yeah, the PSP can drive you cross-eyed if not careful! Looks like the remicaid might be working could get out tomorrow! Who hoo!
Mary
So is it Number 3 on this diagram http://alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm that I need to replace?
I'm finally out of the hospital! But, I am still a bit foggy. I guess I should wait on the working on the bike but I really want to get my bike going it is supposed to be in the 80's tomorrow. Hopefully will be up and riding later this week. Well, if the doc okays it. At least i got a convertible :thumb: not quite as good as my "flix" but I will survive!
Thanks,
Mary
Mary, hope you get better and get out of the hosp soon. Being confined like that isn't good for someone who has so much riding to do! Get better, then catch up on some extra riding time. it's very healing!
Katie
Well, I was out for a couple of days. But the steroids put me in to heart failure. It was nerve wracking having my numbers seven times what they should be.
Anyhow, I bought Kurkuryn LED resistor. Well, long story short. Only three lights work what can I DO? Getting desperate!
Mary
I really think this project needs to rewind a bit.
Did your LED signals have any markings on them for + and - ? For LEDs that is important.
There are more ways to screw up this mod than imaginable.
It sounds like you really need some help there. Care to post where you are? There are GSTwinners all over the south.
I am in the Orlando Kissimmee area. What I think I need to do is get out of the hospital, rest up, then sit down, start over, and do it right. This should not be that complicated right?
Mary
mary i hope you are feeling better and get out of hospital soon :)
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH
Why is this so freakin' complicated?!?!?!??! I took all of the rear turn signals apart completely rewired them and I can't even get the left one to turn on. I bought a kurykurin (sp) resistor and spliced them into both of the turn signals and grounded it to the bike. Guess what back to square one they only flash with the engine on.
Can someone write me up a detailed step by step process? I'm out of the hospital and I just wanna ride my bike :dunno_white:. If I knew this was gonna be this time consuming and complicated I would have paid someone to do it. I just don't understand what is wrong I've done things much harder ( i thought) than this and have had no problems!
SOOOOO HELP PLEASE!
Mary S.
