finally figured it out.after buying parts and it not being the prob, with much help from kerry, which i don't know how that much info can fit into one mans head, i figured out the problem...the po bastardized the wiring harness and a wire rubbed through. thats it, one connector and it fired right up

Did the problem turn out to be in the wires/connectors leading to the signal generator coils? (That's what we last talked about, but just wanted to confirm.)

when the po had the bike he went WAY overboard with the naked thing...he removed the front fender and brace, which he trashed and turned into a taillight bracket, removed all rear fairings and grab handle, chopped way too much off for a regular fenderectomy, the taillight was mounted where the tool kit should go, and after all that someone tryed to steal the bike and trashed the ignition. so instead of buying a new ignition and fixing it correctly he pulled the headlight apart, and spliced all 4 ignition wires together. to correct the problem of the bike always being on he installed a household light switch in the negative wire coming off the battery. so in order to turn off the power you had to raise the seat. but i digress, he didn't make sure all the wires where properly tucked away and i didnt go thought the wiring that completely when i got it, just removed the light switch and replaced the ignition, so earlier it was just an absolute great day and the warden was asleep, so my older bro came over and we put it on a improvised stand and started tracing wires and eventually found one worn in two. alas no pics...the wife has forbidden me from her new cam...they don't offer photography for dummy's around here. so before too long im thinking new wiring harness, the connectors are getting dry rotten and theres still some moron splicing in there im just not trusting.

Still curious whether the bad wire went to the signal generator coils, but it sounds like you have enough to worry about without answering after-the-fact questions.

You simply -must- post pictures of that fantastic light switch under the seat. Even if it's properly fixed now, even if you have to fake it for the sake of this thread. That's fantastic !
I'll see if I can find it and we will hook it back up and take some pictures of how it was before.
