Title: Looking to leave my armor on the bike
Post by: kidproquo on February 04, 2008, 07:11:57 PM
Hello fellow bikers,

I find it a hassle to lug my helmet, jacket and gloves, and raingear from the parking lot to everywhere. I would like to leave them on the bike (in a bike-trunk-of-sorts).
I don't like the way a top case looks on the bike. Hard-case saddle bags are over my budget (make that waaaay over) . Are there any lockable soft saddlebags?

Also, how can soft saddlebags be mounted onto the bike to discourage an opportunistic thief?

Hoping for some money-saving tips,

All the best,
Kidproquo

You could use a Bicycle Lock(through sleeve, pant leg, and helmet visor) and a Half Cover- some1 could still get your stuff but wth they gonna do with a sleeveless motorcycle jacket . as for soft luggage not sure what your options would be and putting a lock through the zipper will not work very well.

tourmaster / cortech make some nice soft bags. i lug junk in mine all the time.

if you use the helmet hooks under your seat, your lid will be secure.

get a laptop security cable from bestbuy for $20 and loop it through your sleeves, then under your seat.

any sorry thieving bastard that really wants your stuff will use bolt cutters or blades and there is nothing to prevent that. :(

i usually lug my stuff in, and use the helmet for a shopping bag. <shrug>

i'm a dork though O0

I usually park my bike between the cars on a street,  so the Jacket etc. will get really dusty.
I guess I will have to wait until I have enough money.
Thanks anyway folks,

I also do the helmet as a shopping bag. Unfortunately my lid is a XS so not much fits. Guys also like chics on bikes.

Here in O-town people cut your straps and appropriate your helmet.

Pacsafe makes some pretty secure soft luggage. Should be enough to discourage the average opportunistic crack head, but if someone really wants it they're going to get it.

a determined thief can not be stopped.   try parking in a high traffic are near the stores security camera and security.  they, the security, don't want their customers stolen from so i am sure they would be helpful if something arose.  but i found that a lined bicycle cable is inexpensive and effective.  like i said before run it through your full face lid and then the sleeve of your jacket.  secure the cable to your bike around the frame or something and you with a medium length cable you can put your lid on the seat, tank area with your jacket covering your lid.   of course this is just a light weight, short time system for when you are just about town or shopping.
