Hi Folks,
I have an 2004 bike and a Clymer manual that only covers up to 2002. Does anyone have the procedure for checking/setting the TPS on the side of the right carb?
Thanks!
buy the new manual and sell the old one here :icon_mrgreen:
Anyone?? :icon_confused:
I bought a new Hayes manual with good directions on the setup. It takes an ohmeter and a good bit of fiddling around to get it right. The good news is that it seemed to cure the problem of ignition detonation (pinging) at light throttle. I can summarize the procedure in a post here if anyone else is interested.
Tom
The procedure must be something like thisQ: "the resistance at "that" terminals of the TPS unit, should be BlaBla Ohms in closed throttle position and around BlaBla Omhs in the WOT position" Or something similar.
Could you tell me what the resistance values are?
I also have some problems at idle, and I hope this will cure the problem.
Thanks.
Iamoun,
You've got the right idea and just need the numbers. At no throtle the resistance across the two outside terminals (there are three inside the TPS connector) should be 3.5 to 6.5 K-ohms. At full throttle the reading across the rearmost and middle terminal should be 76% of the first reading. Small rotations of the TPS holder makes big differences in the readings. But with an ohmeter and calculator in hand it doesn't take long.
The worst thing is in finding a short screw point that will fit between the frame and the rear TPS screw. Also, a meter with short probes will hlep since there's not much room below the carbs to touch the right terminals. Maybe some leads with small allligator clip ends would be best.
Hope this helps.

Thank you very much Tom, this helps the most!

Here are some photos of the Sensors adjustment
The procedure can be done without removing the carbs, not even the tank.
The sensor is on the right side of the carbs.
Here are the terminals.
Using alligator clip terminals, as Tom suggested, is am must!!!
