I've got cable and it's not the speed problem, it's nothing will download.  It goes almost all the way then says, "Download failed, try again later."

Pissing me off, it is.

I'm trying to do "critical updates"  for my NT4.0 server and my 98 box.

I know a few others haveing the same problem now.  I don't feel so "Micro-softed" in the @SS NOW.

You and everybody else with a Windows box. The Blaster worm from last week was supposed to do a denial of service on www.windowsupdate.com today. Microsoft made some changes to DNS to prevent the attack and was supposedly successful. Try going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ directly.

At work, we did the patches last month when Microsoft announced the hole and fix and beat the rush.

At home I run Mac OS X and don't worry about Microsoft's weekly security holes. :)

Edit: Doh! Just read the topic title, you've obviously already tried the direct route. You may have to just keep trying. As I said, a lot of people are trying to get their critical updates.

I received an email at work stating there is now a strain for 95, 98 and ME.  I have not looked on Micrososft or Symantecs sites for these.  We have so few in our environment that I pretty much ignored it.

Just an FYI incase its true.
