Title: Running out of fuel???? Help!!
Post by: RedFuelDlux on August 18, 2003, 12:29:20 PM
Recentely my 91' GS started acting like it's running out of fuel . I can put 100 or so miles with no problems and then all of a sudden it acts up. Once I pull of to the side of the rode, and crank a for a few minutes, it's fine. But this morning I ran out three times on the way to work. Then once I got it running for the third time...I put 10 miles on it with no problems. The carbs have a new rebuild and all vacuum lines appear to be connected. Is it the shut-off valve? Or possibly something else? Maybe someone out there has had the same problem?? Thanks :x

Among the many things I've learned on this board is that the fuel petcock is the achilles-heel of the GS.  Your bike's behavior is consistent with a dirty/clogged fuel petcock.  Do a "fuel petcock" search on the board and you'll read about similar problems and fixes.  Good luck.

Sounds like the petcock, but you may want to make sure the fuel tank vent hose is not kinked or clogged.  The fuel flow is vacuum controlled.  No venting will not allow the fuel to flow from the tank.

Thank guys! I did the search and WOW!  :o  I never knew that petcock was such a hunk of sh*t! They need to make a discussion board dedicated to problems caused by that load of crap.  I mean c'mon Suzuki! Recall it already! :nana:  Or at least make a service kit.
Anyway, I'm done venting :guns:   But thanks again guys.
RFD
