Jared, how many times to tell you ... stop trying to talk sense into the newbies   ...
A 89-00 crashes a lot better than an 01+, a F totally negates the whole purpose of having a beginners bike ... yea whatever, still geniuses come in here asking for 98 and newer only ... like WTF.
I once had this clown, who seized up his savage 650 and the next bike he wanted to buy was going to be newer than the 86 that one was, and was larger than 650 ... whatever, after 2-3 years ... he now has a 96 GS, that he seized up the motor on, and we swapped it for a 91 motor, but along the way, he rode my 82 XS 650 and he still asks for one of those. He also loved the Nighthawk I had.
Essentially, most clowns have no clue, you need to have owned and worked on 10 bikes at a minimum spanning a 10-15 year model span, IMHO before you know what is right for you. The only ones that are absolutely certain what they want are the newb's. All the more experienced ones, usually consider several models.
Cool.
Srinath.

Wow! seshadri_srinath -> i have no idea what is your problem   :cookoo:, but i think you were a new biker at some point to , and you had to pick your bike. Well , i looked at my options and i think i picked a good beginners bike, i dont know how you gonna put me down like that just for choosing a model with fairing. :dunno_white:

Jared -> i will keep that in mind, will pm you if anything.

You'll get used to Srinath.... his idea of tact...well you know I really don't think he knows that word...Hehehehehe

Srinath's a very good guy.

He makes a good point and an opinion I do share, HoHo.. most new riders take a spill...and it's a lot cheaper to fix an un-faired bike than a faired one. That plastic aint cheap. So as a first bike...I'd look at "naked" bikes . It's a realist/practical opinion...

Plus I have a bike for sale....

Happy Hunting, and be careful out there.

I started on a Ninja 600, mainly because in 92 in rural PA GS'es were few and far between and being under 3 year old at that point were more $$$ than the crashed and repainted ninja I bought. But in under 400 miles I grew sick of all that plastic, and well a year and 1/2 in after moving to spokane WA (life gets in the way y'know) I sold it and got a nighthawk 650. In the mean time I met and still am great friends with a hardcore suzuki GSXR rider and mechanic who sorta made me understand that not all bikes are created equal. That lead me to selling the nighthawk, and buying a Katana 600. I learnt to work on it with his help and he taught me nighthawk BS too, and I also bought a virago 535. I also saw my very first GS ~94. I was just stanging there gaping at it. 1995 in CA I bought an 89 GS after my katana got stolen. Since then, I have owned one more katana, no more Ninja600's and 9 more GS'es. I also have had 4 nighthawks and 1 more 535. basically 89-00 GS'es crash better and are cheaper to buy parts for than newer years, and black is IMHO the best color, many many years had black and under the decals they are the same.
Cool.
Srinath.
