Anyone make a screw on fuel cap for a '90 GS500? I've seen them listed for later Gixxer's and SV's, but no early GS models?
I think that Katana's will fit but they are hard to find and pricey.I'd like 2 of them my self.I may get one of those caps with the gauge built into it,and mod my tank when I strip it and repaint it.
Well I found a cap to fit a GS. A place called SSR (Sling Shot Racing Corp.) sells them for $50. Found them on ebay, so you can search there or just email them.. slingshotracing@gmail.com and they can help you out. Just ask for the 4 bolt Suzuki cap.

Just curious... what is the advantage? Does this have some benefit for track riding?

At the track you don't have to screw around with a key on a stock cap. Not so much with the GS, but I race YSR50's and between rounds there isn't much time to waste between racing and corner work.
Personally, I just like the look better.

For street riding (parking on the street), I like the idea that my tank locks up. :)

if you take your lady friend with you- you can borrow a smidge of her lipstick to make a mark on the cap, or anything else you think someone might mess with.
i use a pink (ya, pink!) grease pen to mark the brake caliper bolts, axels nuts, and headstock when I'm going to let it sit a while. bike shows, etc, where tons of people are around have become a hot bed for thieves. they're brazen.

Remove the tumblers and use a screwdriver, any key, etc... The one on my track bike is that way. Free too.

That's the way my YSR came. It's just inconvenient to have to have a screw driver or something like that close by.

so you are saying if my ignition and my gas tank use two different keys then I can remove the tumblers from the gas tank lock and then use my ignition key to unlock it?

Yep. It is not too tough to take it apart.
It can be re-keyed if you have the right tumblers. I have done this several times. The seat and tank locks use the same tumblers.

I'm a bit confused :icon_confused: Is the mark for safety? This doesn't prevent others from messing with anything, it just lets you know that they already did. :dunno_white:

Well just incase if anyone ever dumped sugar, just in case, :dunno_white: into your tank, you would not want to ride your bike. Don't know how you would figure there was sugar mix into your fuel, unless you engined went kaput and you had to open it up to find that there's sugar in it. :o

I have the same one except it is made by Vortex. Around $50 bucks..comes in various color combos and can be order from Dennis Kirk.

Mythbusters dumped a bunch of sugar in a gas tank and it didnt affect the car wonder if it would affect a carbed motorcycle lol
If it's a full tank and not to much sugar it will dissolve and dilute.The warmer the gas the quicker it will happen.Worst case seneario it lays in the bottom of the tank and gradually makes it's way thru the fuel pump and into the filter.On a motorcycle it'll probably make it thru the filter considering it's a screen element and not a paper element like a car.Either way it eventually clog the filter.
The Vortex 4-bolt Suzuki caps work as well. I've got one on my GS.

yes, that's what the above posts seem to say. The tumbler will just come out (maybe a bolt or two) when you disassemble the cap, at least that's how it is on car doors.

Just got my Sling Shot Racing cap in, and am curious about a couple things, mayhaps those who are using them could answer?
1st: How does the cap vent?
2nd: When I looked at my GS, the tank opening was centered in the middle of the cap area, this one has the tank spigot and gasket offset by 5mm from center?

on my vortex on there is a ball and spring mechanism and you have to line that up with the venting hole on the tank when you install it. But the springs on the vortex gas caps too hard so I had fuel stravation problems from not being abale to vent. Thanks to dygver I was able to fix this...

Is your vortex setup with an offset on the fill hole?
I am still waiting for mine to come, but the vortex due have an offset hole for filling. But the hole is also smaller, so it should still work.
What is the problem that you are having with it? Does it not fit?
Haven't mounted it yet, bike is locked away at the shop so I can't get to it at the moment... so I'm bench wrenching in the mean time. : )
