Title: Starter Cover,Oil Leak,and Chain Popping=Starwalt's
Post by: ben2go on March 01, 2008, 02:28:06 PM
I am wondering if I'm about to experience Starwalt's Disease. Before I stored my bike for the winter I was experiencing some intermiting starter problems.Sometimes the starter would be slow, other times it would click and then turn over fine.I noticed that oil is coming from the chain side of the starter cover.Another issue is,I adjusted the chain twice today and it's still loose and popping.I checked the battery and it's good, the oil is only on the end of the starter cover, not around the base of the cylinders or chain adjuster.I am replacing the chain soon and wonder if I should dig a little deeper.?I checked the electrical connections at the battery and starter, everything is clean and fine.Any ideas on what else I should check?

I am failing to see the connection between the starter and the chain "popping"

Unless you think the starter is not disengaging and if that was the case I would think there would be more than a popping sound. Do you have any stiff links the chain?
