I am rejetting a low mileage (4200miles) set of carbs. When I disassembled the left carb, there was gold(brass) and silver(aluminum) powder in the bowl. When I took the float off, the seat for the needle fell out.The needle was worn on the outside more than it should have been.I put a new O ring on it and it still won't stay in.The O ring is made for this carb and not some generic part.Should I try replacing the needle and seat?
The other problem I have is, the long needle in the slide is worn in the center all the way around. It's worn through the gold(brass) and down to the silver(aluminum).I cleaned the needle hole out,but it still doesn't seem to move freely. One of the float bowl screws came out, leaking gas down the side of the other carb.Other than that the right carb looks good inside and out.I noticed on the problem carb that there is a lot of flash left from the casting process.Could the factory missed cleaning this casting causing damage to the carb?Since the worn needle doesn't move smoothly, should I try to replace it?
I am also considering replacing the problem carb.I tried to take pics but neither of my cameras would focus in on the small parts and areas.I think that the carb is a bad casting, but I may just be paranoid.
