Title: WOT(way off topic)-Need help selling these cell phones!
Post by: South East Rocket on August 19, 2003, 03:15:47 PM
1st off let me say that if this has crossed into the "too off topic zone" feel free to erase it.

My last job folded so I had to pick up another job.  A good friend is making around $5-6k/mo. selling Cingular service.  So he got me the job. Well I started off strong last week making about $850 in commission but I've not sold one phone since Sunday.  It's strictly commission so I cant be sitting here not selling.

Here are my questions:
1) Suggestions on how to attract customers to the booth?
2) How should I go about getting contacts?
3) Any general suggestions

And for those who says this if too-off-topic.  Let me say this:  If I got too broke I'll have to sell the bike....  I gotta make it til next year when I finish school, so don't suggest getting another job.  This is the only thing compatible with my school schedule.

Pure commission sales suck.  Plain and simple.

Don't tell me that this is the only job that you can work.

Try setting yourself on fire to get people to come over to your booth.

If you want to make some real "in-school" cash (I'm totally serious about this one) get an hourly, flexible schedule selling appliances for the Lowe's near you.

Go to the Appliance manager at the store an introduce yourself. If you don't look like a felon, you will get an "in" and they need night and weekend guys all of the time. It just happens that nights and weekends are prime time for selling appliances. You make an crappy hourly wage (maybe $10 for a less than full time employee), but you get these things called spiffs every time you sell an appliance. A DJ friend does it on the side and takes HOME more than the assistant managers (that pisses them off).

Oh, lie about knowing a great deal about appliances. Tell them that your friend's family had an appliance business and you hung around the store all of the time. Say something like "What's the commission for a set of Neptunes? I know I could sell the begeezers out of them..." and the manager will instantly love you.

Just a suggestion. If I had know about it when I was going to school I would have had money to burn.  :thumb:

i used to do something similar like that selling printers in various best buy's. i found the easiest way to attract customers was to wear clothing VERY similar to those that employees of the company wear. that way, they come up to you thinking that you are an un-biased phone person for help, when really, your working your company  8)

i dunno. worked realll well for me. blue shirt and khaki pants (the best buy uniform)....

edit: oh wait. your not in a retail store...damn...now i get it....your at a booth in like the school's student center?
