Title: lean condition, overnight ?
Post by: ohgood on March 10, 2008, 10:53:02 AM
I've put 3-400 miles on the new carbs, they were about as close to perfect running as they  could be. This past weekend it ran flawlessly for 125 or so miles. This morning it started fine, but once I turned the choke off, idle and off idle was horrible. Anything using the mains seems to be fine, so long as there is acceleration. Lots of popping on decel, and the plugs look like this:

They were new when I put on the 'new' carbs. After several plug chops, they looked like they were burning cleanly at idle, mid, and WOT plug chops.

ON, PRIME, or RES does not change the running condition.

Any ideas why it's running like it did a month ago, all over again ?

Sucking air ??? crap blocking the pilot jet (neither of which wont be equal in both IMHO) ... ergo ...
You blew a hole in the air filter ??? somehting affecting both carbs. Oh yea, look for drain hose and CCV hose disconnected from air box, or an airfilter running loose in it.
Cool.

sprayed the boots, petcook, and K&N boots with WD-40, it appears air tight.

(i'll supplement my plugs' picture since they're crappy quality cameraphone)

there is a very little ash that's creamy yellow on the electrode, this is after idle chop and 5k chop, both plugs:

should I go richer still, say, 1/2 a turn more enriching and another #4 shim on the needles ?

summary: K&N lunchbox, V&N full pipe, 40 idle and 150 mains, now 3 1/2- 4 turns out on the mixture.

idle is smooth, acceleration is good. deceleration is SLOW, drop back from a high rev is slower than befor. I"m reading my clymer again for hints and tips as to why it's dropping back to idle slowly.

ya, i know my bike is dirty - shaddup ;)
