Title: Need some medical advice on road rash
Post by: vsboxerboy on March 11, 2008, 08:55:37 AM
So I went down in the mountains a week ago.......on my skateboard.  Fun hill up until I bailed.  Anyway, I have some road rash on my arm that I have been tending to.  I did the whole lot with cleaning and whatnot and picked up some of those hydragel bandages.  They work wonders and are totally awesome but they have been on for almost a week now and I am wondering if I should take them off and clean the wound and replace them with new ones.  How often do I need to do this??  The packaging said that they were maintanance free, but I don't want anything to get infected - although it looks very healthy now.

Thanks guys - I know this is not a medical forum or anything and I'll check with a doc, just figured I might as well ask because I'm sure some of you guys have experience with this.

Yeah, I crash like once a week if I'm lucky. Especially when I'm not wearing any clothes.  :icon_razz:

But really, I slid into third once and got the biggest cherry ever. I used bactine and left it uncovered so it could dry out. If you have it sealed up, it will probably take longer to dry and heal. Just keep stretching it as it hardens. (scabs)  ewwwwww!

That was what the military gave me. I didn't want anything, but it worked. Enjoy the rash!

Cool, yeah when it first happened I went through a ton of dry bandages replacing then 2-3x a day because it oozed and such.  It slowed down the oozing and on went the hydrogel bandages.  It used to still leak junk out the sides but that has slowed down a lot.  I would take them off, but I work in a biochem lab, and it really just isn't the best place to be walking around with any sort of open wound.

I crashed going down a huge hill in NY a couple years back going too fast bailed one foot hit and could not get my other foot fast enough so i super man it about twenty feet on my face ,stomach, elbos ,knees . and my parents, sister and  went to myrtle beach the next day the ocean did wonders for the road rash so the salt and the bath is a great ideal good luck ( It would of been better for me to ride out  the rest of the hill )
