I've heard that a 150 tire is suggested size because any bigger and it won't fit due to the brake caliper and the torque arm bar, chain clearance and such. So basically what is the largest tire that will actually fit inside the swing arm. I will make all that other stuff work I just want to know that if a 160 tire will fit inside the swing arm. I have a bandit 600 rear wheel that I'm going to put on, and am looking to put Michelin Pilot Power on it, 160 size. Just seeing if it will fit, because this size wheel is already almost stuffed in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You may want to look at the wiki: http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Upgrades/KatanaRearWheel
Looks like Turd Ferguson was sucessful in putting a 160 on a Katana rear. Judging from the pictures, it requires some modifications to get enough room.
Any bigger and you would need to swap out the entire rear end, which will require significant modding because the gs' frame is too narrow to fit the swingarms from most other bikes.
some one about 2 yrs ago installed a 190
