Title: Help with some clutch problems.
Post by: bombadillo on March 16, 2008, 05:19:58 PM
Well, its been about 2k miles since my last oil change now and I've noticed that the clutch is slipping.  I don't really want to have to change anything, and I have adjusted the friction zone in and out and it seems to make no difference, but it just continues to slip.  I'm getting the feeling that is just isn't as crisp as when I first got it.  The bike only has 17k on the clock now and I didn't figure that it should be going out, but it has been used to train about 4 people on now.  My questions are 1) Where do you buy the clutch disks/plates from?  2) Where could I get a set of ferodo springs from?  3) are the prices of disks per disk or is that a set of seven?  I've checked the wiki and it has no info on clutches, so any info would help as I am a newb on how to change a clutch on a bike.  Thanks in advance

I have not been able to locate a supplier for the Ferodo springs.I am using a stock 99-01 SV650 clutch kit with Barnett springs.$80 is what I give for the clutch kit and $10 for the springs.I haven't installed it yet.My bike is stripped waiting for more parts. What type of oil did you use when you changed it?I used standard 10-40 auto type castro oil.It caused my clutch to slip after about 500 miles.I changed my oil and used Valvoline oil and a fram filter.

I used valvoline for wet clutches 10-40 just like the bike calls for.  As far as the springs, I knew the ferodo were around 10 bucks for springs so if they were that much better, then I could just get them instead.  I may just change the oil first and call it a day and see if that helps enough.

I tried a few online dealers and they only deal with brake pads.Tried a couple local dealers and they don't sell Feredo parts.I'm sure someone has them it's just a matter of searching.99-01 SV650 has the same clutch as the GS,so parts are interchangeable.May be easier to find them for an SV650.
