Maybe the bike fell over? I don't think it went down hard because there is no other damage anywhere. Could the cover have just popped off? Could that scratch-looking stuff just be adhesive or something?
Can I get a replacement and how does it attach?
Thanks.
well i can't tell from that pic but it only attaches like a sticker , i paid i think around 20$ for mine :thumb:
I have simular damage to my bike, at first to me it looked like a type of adhesive that i think just fell off. I fell on the other side of my bike, but that was still there. Maybe weather played a factor? I'm also interested in a replacement!
i let some kid who told me he could ride a bike on my 1996 , and he was turning it round and just dropped it , and the cover on the otherside just popped off ,

Any suggestions (or links) about where to get a replacement?
if you could find an old tuna can that had "TUNA" stamped in it, that would rock.
looks like someone dropped it, but no way to be sure without feeling the underside. that's where all the hickies hide anyway. new bike ?
New to me, yes. I bought it on eBay last week and the guy I bought it from is delivering it next week. He had it on eBay for about 12 hours before we worked out a buy it now. He is in my hometown (turns out we know some of the same people) and he is going to deliver it to me (about 2 hours from him). Anyway, it's a 98 with 4k on the clock...I bought it for $2k.

Excellent price, and the fella is local too, so you can ride by his house and rev it just to make him sick !
Congrats on the new ride. Got my 98 in 06 for $1800, with 3363 miles on it. Love it !

he even had a Special Edition Clutch Relay Override installed !
Dude, I almost forgot how butt-ugly non-remote brake reservoirs are.
It's a very thin piece of tin I believe. Double sided tape on the back. It's very delicate, so once you put it on, thats it.
I got one from the local dealership for $8 and change.

That's exactly what mine looked like when I dropped it. It was my first day on the bike hit the throttle too hard it came out from under me. Mine had a small scratch on the exhaust, broke the brake handle bar ball thingy, and scraped the glued on plastic emblem.
Think I will get the one off bike bandit not a bad price. My stealership quoted it at $30 so I didn't bite.
Question though does this little sticker thing get hot. I was thinking about covering it with some carbon fiber look stickers. Then I wouldn't have to buy another one!
Mary S.
it gets as hot as your engine. :cookoo:
I had a sticker on mine for a while, not on the left but the right to cover up the hole in the center. It was a great temp fix and lasted all last year. :thumb:
Im missing the one on the other side after a recent crash..
btw, i would avoid touching your header pipe(s) after a 10 mi ride. I tapped mine lightly tonight and it stuck my fingers. O sh1t. Then my fingerprints were burned white.
no major pain but my fingertips were a little in shock.
It rubbed off under water and smelled like toasted meat. :o
