Title: quirky chain
Post by: rockadoo on August 20, 2003, 05:15:24 PM
I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. I just replaced my drive chain and after adjusting the wheel for what appears to be correct tightness I turn the wheel by hand. It turns smoothly but at one point the chain get very tight ! The sprockets are in good shape and the chain is brand new..Whats up with that ! has anyone else experienced this problem?

Did you aligned the wheel correctly? I can't think of anything else.

I eyeballed the chain to make sure it was running straight !

i dont think any sproket is 100% true, find the tightest point when turning the wheel, THEN adjust the chain,  then sit on it and check the slack. works for me  KEEP IT LUBED

Does the tight spot happen on the same spot of the chain, or same spot of the sprocket rotation?  If it's on the chain, then it could be just a tight link that may loosen up.  If it's on the sprocket, it's likely wheel alignment (provided sprockets are in good shape).
