Title: Clutch adjustment??
Post by: LOUiE on March 21, 2008, 01:20:17 PM
I'm not the biggest guy and when shifting I need to reach a little beyond my small hand capacity to pull back the clutch lever.

Does anyone know if I'm able to adjust the stock clutch in order to make the lever less hard to reach?  I had a look at it today, but I don't have a clue.

Yes, by increasing the freeplay on the lever.  That's the fastest way to gain a little reach if you feel you need it.

Just above the lever perch you'll see a knurled disc and a smaller knurled thimble on the cable.  The disc acts as a jam nut on the thimble to prevent movement.  Simply loosen the disc and turn the thimble in a little, increasing the freeplay.

Be sure you don't turn it in too much, or the clutch won't disengage completely with the lever pulled back to the bar!

Personally, I leave it at the stock freeplay amount.  It is a slight reach for me too, but I find I prefer to work the clutch with the tips of my fingers.  I'm more precise that way.
