Title: ASV levers
Post by: Mat on August 21, 2003, 04:11:53 AM
has anybody seen these.  they claim to be unbreakable.  http://www.asv-usa.com/main.htm  i talked with my local dealer and they are just for dirt bikes.   i was wondering if any dirt bikes may have a lever setup liket the gs.  they are expensive but having to pay for one lever that i never have to replace will make it worth it too me.  (i also do a little stunting on the ole gs)  just wondering thanks   (my bike is the one all my friends are learning on so levers seem to get bent quite often and i am tired of having to order them...

maybe i should just get some dirt bike bars and some roost guards

I saw them at a place up here in D-town and they were like $129.99 or something and they showed them for sportbikes they were in a glass case and didnt ask about application. But since GSXR and Katana and RF900 ones are the same as the GS then I would say they prob have one for our bike.

Hell, if you're stunting why dont you just cut half the lever off and have a 2-finger lever? its the outer half that gets bent anyway...

My clutch lever is like this-no problems.

two fingers IMO is not enough to lift up the rear end.  and you loose sensitivity in the handle the shorter it gets.

Yeah, 2-fingers is fine for clutch, maybe not so good for brake...I remember the MSF 4-finger emergency braking exercise.

I have a 2 finger brake lever in my virago...Works great and yes those 129.99 levers break too I saw a 929 or 954 with a broken one. You are prolly best off with finding that ball on the end and sorta shaving it a little and welding it on the end of your broken lever...taht way you have a safer but still short lever.
Cool.

Mat,

I know this is an old post, but I found a link from someone else on this board for motorcycle accessories that includes the ASV levers:
http://www.rageperformance.com/levers&.asp

The page says the have "universal" clutch/brake levers that "Fits All Makes And Years Of Japanese Motorcycles & ATVs with Cable Clutch/Brake"

The prices look easier to swallow too. Has anyone ever used these at all, even on motocross?

Also, would a hydraulic clutch cable/lever combo be overkill?

Alot of people who have hydraulic clutches change them to cable since they get a better "feel" for the clutch. Cable setups are lighter than hydraulic.

I have the ASV lever on my race bike for the clutch. I only paid $80.00
The guy at the shop said that it was alot. I told him he obviously never bought a piece of crap Ducati lever for $75.00.
I haven't crash tested it and don't plan on it. But it is really nice.
Made from billet, not cast aluminum. I'm sure it will handle a pretty good hit.
For your use, I would just buy a bunch from Lockhart Phillips for about $5.00

Really?  Have you tried it?  I have.  Not on purpose (the first time) but still...  two fingers is plenty to loft the backend.  Not saying I recomend cutting your brake lever, just saying, stopies would be no problem.
