Title: Modified GS parting out in England
Post by: Dave Fowler on March 30, 2008, 07:20:44 AM
Hi,

A couple of years ago I spent a lot of time and effort fixing up my GS500 (see pics). Since then, I've put about 5000 happy

miles on it, but I'm going to be moving abroad soon, so sadly, I need to sell it. Since it is rather unoriginal, I think it

would be better to part it out (unless anyone really wants the whole thing). So before I put these bits on good old ebay, I

thought I'd let you guys on the forum take what you want. Below I describe a few of the bigger or more intereting items, the

rest is all there and you can probably see it in the pics. Please email me on 'bobdave87*at*hotmail*dot*com' with any

enquiries:

I haven't put any prices, I'm open to reasonable offers. Anything that doesn't get sold will go on ebay with a 99p reserve. I

live in Nottingham.

- Engine: Fully working engine from a 95 model with about 20,000 miles (had 11,000 when I bought it to replace the original

tired engine). This works flawlessly. It always starts first time with no smoke or funny noises. I always used to get ~65

MPG, so it's in good shape. It's also been enamelled, so it looks quite clean and shiny too!

- Engine side covers

- Carbs: These have about 14,000 miles on them, they are clean and original and they work just fine.

- Exhaust: polished Stainless steel Laser exhaust. The engine mounting brackets are mild steel and are a bit rusty, but work

fine.

- Forks and springs: Good straight pair of polished GS forks with no pitting around the sliding part of the stanchions. I'll

sell them with or without the aftermarket Progressive fork springs.

- Low mileage SV shock redrilled for GS (direct-bolt in replacement)

- Front brake. This is a conversion to a 4-pot nissin caliper from a GSXR/Bandit 1200. This bracket/caliper + SS brake line

and standard GS master cylinder is a straight bolt on conversion and greatly improves power and feel over the standard

system. The pads are also virtually new. For details  and pics see:

- Wheels/tyres. The wheels are straight but rather badly painted silver, however the tyres are Michelin Macadam 100

(ZR-radials) in the standard sizes. These tyres are virtually new and were the best tyres you could get for a GS when I

bought them at ~£90 each. All the bearings seem fine.

- Swingarm/rising rate linkage with new bearings and bushes. The swing arm is well repainted in standard GS silver.

- Recovered leather GS seat.

- Front and rear brake discs (front is a virtually new aftermarket item)

- Rear GSXR pegs. I attatched these with some very basic aluminium plates which you can have if you want.

All the other bits that you see in the pics are available. Most of them have been cleaned and repainted at some point.

Thanks for looking.

Hi there,
A nice bike. Are you sure you don't want to just sell it whole there in the UK?
I'd be interested in the chin fairing beneath the engine.
Would it cost much to ship that to the US?
Would you take $40 plus shipping for it?
Let me know, and thanks.
Yours,
Todd

Thats a good looking GS, it'd be a shame to see it parted out.  I agree with Trwhouse, see how your luck fares selling it complete in the UK first.  You have much more sensible riders over there, with a larger potential market of people who recognize how sweet a bike these lil GSs are.

That said, if you do decide to break it down and parcel it up, I'd be interested in the wheels and fork preload adjusters if your machine has them.
