Hi guys,
I just got a '01 Bandit 600 rear wheel for pretty cheap. After I read the howto for swapping a katana rear wheel http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=25426.0 , I got a few questions about it.
1. Is it the same wheel as the Katana? Are there any differences at all?
2. It came with the brake disc, but not the sprocket hub. Can I use the GS wheel's sprocket hub on this wheel?
3. I'm hoping to fit a michelin pilot power 150 on it. Will I have to bend the brake torque rod to get enough clearance?
4. The Bandit's brake torque rod seems to get enough clearance since it's a bit smaller than the GS's. Will it fit the GS caliper?
Thanks in advance!
1 No the wheels aren't the same. The B6 wheel is 4.5 swept spoke with larger axle.Replace the bearings with GS bearings.Only a few $.The carrier is different and the brake disc is smaller.Brake disc are not interchangable. The pre97 Kat wheels are the same as the 3.5 GS wheel. The straight spoke Kat wheels are 4.5 and the carrier is different and the brake disc is different.
2 The disc is great and the carrier can be used from the GS wheel without modification.
3 The Pilot 150 should fit without much trouble.Remember to add a washer between the sprocket and carrier.
4The rod should fit.You may have to add a washer or 2 to tighten things up.
One more question about spacers: Will the spacer between the wheel and the caliper bracket on the GS axle fit the B600 wheel? (It's number 5 on this diagram: http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/2/Make/Suzuki/YearID/45/Year/2004/ModelID/6807/Model/GS500F/GroupID/290237/Group/REAR_WHEEL)
If not, then what else can I space it with? Will a stack of washers with a 17mm inner diameter work?
When i asked a garage to fit Gs bearings in a Bandit 600 wheel , they said they wont fit , and we wont let u go out on the road with it ,
hence why i got a kat rear wheel
No problems here. The brake bracket has to be cut down. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=27757.0
