Title: parking ticket. Dispute or not?
Post by: Jenya on March 31, 2008, 05:02:13 PM
This morning I've parked my GS perpendicular to the curb between two parked cars.
There was the sign stating that parking at the curb has to be paid, but I figured since I am not taking any additional space that anybody could have used and only will be in the building for 10-15 minutes, I'd just leave it parked unpaid.

When I got back, the parking nazi was just leaving my bike to which he attached the parking ticket for $35.
Sure I can swing paying $35, but I just find it lame that they ticket a bike that doesn't really take up any addional space from the curb parking avaliability.

Oh well....

Reminds of Judge Dredd

"I am the law..."

Unfortunately the best course of action would be to just pay it and move on.

you weren't technically 'between' the spaces, you were in one or the other and as an occupant of a space you need to pay. its like that here in CA. pay the ticket.

I was just thinking of that.
Yeah, judging from the show it would be a huge headache, and you probably wouldn't win.

$35 and it's not a real traffic offense??  Pay it and call it a lesson learned.

Of course you should pay the ticket.  It doesn't matter if you think it was lame or not...you still broke the law.

It's a bummer but i think you gotta cough it up.
I once parked a Honda 125 outside of my dentist for a short period, got a ticket for the local "norm" of a £60.00 fine (about $110) with a proviso that if I paid within ten days i could have it for the bargain sale price of £30.00 - that's what they do here - hence no dispute - pay up.
The only successful disputes on tickets around here are "Snow obscured the yellow line" and "leaves obscured the yellow lines" both are somewhat seasonal.

pay up. it sucks but it's easier/cheaper.

i parked the gs downtown ybor to save a spot for the wife. when she arrived, i moved the bike to the curb, and there was plenty of room left for the car, so she parked next to me. ticket lady came along, and we were eating outside. i explained it was my bike, and my wife's car, and we were taking up less space than two normally would. she didn't care. ticketed my wife TWICE one for double parking and one for illegal parking. I was livid.

called the ticket office and they would not dismiss it for anything, even with pictures and signed statements. they only reduced it to 'out of time meter' for $30. :(

stupid laws.

Some friends of mine went to Eureka springs arkansas, there is no free parking anywhere in that town. Well almost none there is a restraunt that caters to riders and has some free parking for them. They all used a basically unusable spot that would not interfere with traffic to park and go eat lunch and they all received tickets. I have been told that parking 4 bikes in 1 parking space will also get you ticketed. At $5 a ticket they hand them out like water over there. It's one of the towns largest sources of revenue.

Once for all, people - parking citations money it is any town's "free money", so forget about law or anything. They'll ticket you no matter what. They want your money.
