Title: Riding with someone.
Post by: Jlittle on April 02, 2008, 06:19:24 AM
Heh this may sound sad but last night was the first time i actually road with someone instead of alone since i've got my GS (in November).  None of my friends have a motorcycle yet so i'm forced to go it alone, and i ride A LOT.  It gets lonely =( hahaha.  but anyway yea it was fun, kinda had me nervous being so close to another bike in a single lane. Also the fact i was on this little GS. NOT THAT I DON'T LOVE IT.  The other guy just had some pimped out GSXR600 Chrome, green lights and all lol.  What surprised me was when he took off i could keep up with him for abit then he just pulled away as i hit like 7k rpms in 5th.  Anyway i just felt like i should share my experience it was short but new, now i'm on a mission to find someone to ride with in Maryland.

Riding with someone else or a group is a lot of fun. Just remember to ride within your limits when trying to keep up. Be safe out there.  :thumb:

Yea me and my buddy both got bikes at the same time in october and rode together most of the fall, even did a ride with my psychology professor who has a 636.  My buddy sold his bike cause he couldn't afford payments so now I am left alone haha.  Hoping to ride with my prof here in the next couple weeks.  You'll find even the most experienced riders are always willing to slow down and take care of the less experienced riders, so don't worry about always trying to keep up and ride over your head.

Yea, it was cool i rather enjoyed it alot.  Just seeing how other people ride is kinda interesting.  Like maybe picking up tips and such.  People in cars here tend to ride ur ass ALOT when ur on a bike and i hate it.  Cant help getting that uneasy feeling when ur alone and 2 huge trucks pull up on each side of you. lol

Sounds like you're having a blast. That uneasy feeling - that's a really good thing. It'll save you life a few times. Paranoid bikers get to ride a long long time. :)

yea well around here we have a lot of idiot bikers that fly by at 100 doin wheelies and trying to show off constantly.  Why im alittle uneasy around most people around here.  I ran into another sportbike rider one time before and tried riding with them.  They just took off through the roundabout circle, ive seen so many accidents at the circle and i can just imagine what it would be like for a motorcycle.  Im still very causious and abit paranoid, lol i looked up a bunch of crashes and such online trying to scare myself to act right ont he road and i think it worked.  Plus that first accident i had 2 weeks after i got the bike scared the crap outta me, i still limp from it if im on my feet too long.

I have done the same thing! After that I bought all major pieces of riding gear which every rider should have (good helmet, jacket, pants, armored gloves, leather boots w/ankle protection - took me a while cause this things aren't cheap)
before I watched those accident movies I was a bit careless   I used to ride in helmet and jacket only - very bad idea - even the slow speed low side could give you extreme amount of pain (road rash is not a joke!!)
be safe (I'm trying to be at all times)
