Title: New at bike buying
Post by: Tang on April 02, 2008, 08:54:31 AM
Hi i'm buying my first bike today and was wondering what i should do.

i'm buying a 1998 GS500E for $1100

I'm going to pick up the title after i get out of school and was wondering what do i do with the title?

Some ppl say go straight to the DMV some say go pay the tax or something.

Anyone got any pointers?

It will depend on where you are from. I would say the DMV is a safe bet to go to first. They can tell you what you need to do  :thumb:

Completely depends on the state.

In MA, insurance is required so you have to take the title to the insurance agency first.  Once you have proof of insurance you take the title to the DMV, pay the tax, and get the new title and registration.

Basically the same process as with a car.

Dang all that in half a day sounds impossible lol i'll try it though lol my mom says my insurance company covers my motorcycle for a month or somethin.. i dunno what she talking about.

but i'm def. going to pick up the title from the owner and try to register it in my name then go pay the person and pick up the bike.

IN SC I do it like this.Take title and get insurance. Then to the county treasurer's office and pay property taxes.Next to the DMV for tag and registration.Don't for get your tax reciet and insurance papers. They will wanna look at that.
