I layed my 1998 GS500E down ALREADY!!!! this blows! i'm so bummed i did't even know what happend....i'm fine no damage due to helmet!
SO WHEN PPL SAY WEAR A HELMET THEY MEAN IT!
I'm so mad at myself.....!!!!
I want to get this fixed and was wondering if i could just fix this myself? or do i have to take it to the shop.
i'm a newb with motorcycles so any detailed help will help me a lot!
Here is a video of my damages...

sorry to hear about the bike.
Don't bother taking it to a shop, they will charge you an arm and 4 legs.
Not a huge deal 8)
EDIT
you will need 13, 11, 1, and 2 from here: I THINK
(http://images.powersportsnetwork.com/fiche/images/Suzuki/1997/Motorcycles/2104_5.gif)
and definately need to fix the clipped wire coming out of the bikes wound (i forget what its for- i wanna say oil pressure sensor, not sure?)
the gsboard will be glad to aid you in your repairs!
good luck! :thumb:
gah thanks a hugh deal i'm so lost in what i was lookin for could't tell which part of this diagram i was facing.
:)
do u konw what wire i would need to buy?
Quote from: JeremyP on April 03, 2008, 04:27:04 PM
...you will need 15 14 and 18
Aren't you looking at the wrong side of the bike? The damage is to the dipstick-side...
yeah i just noticed that...lol
:dunno_white:
what number part do i need?
i'm thinkin 1, 11, and 13?
edited previous post.
it IS the dipstick side.
and you will need the gasket (#2) when replacing the cover.
I think the wire might be the signal generator wire: I don't think you can buy just the wire. I would try fixing the wire because the "generator assembly" costs over 100 ducks
isn't #2 inside? i do'nt think i need that do i?
to replace #1 you will need to remove it completely and it is recommended that you replace the gasket (#2) at the same time.
word!
so on the cut wires i should just tie them back together right?
and then cable tape them all individually?
and my motorcycle should crank up?
asd;lfkajd;f
I'm so scared
Poor GS500E me and my lack of experience...
make sure all the wires have a really good connection to each other.
You might want to make another post asking the best way to repair the wire
Also make sure nothing else is broken inside that hole
what whole?
oh haha nvm lol i'm dumb :cookoo:
yeah nothin else is broken but i see gas leakage a little but now it stopped?
Weird!
Sorry bout your bike.Kinda like backing over your dog in the driveway....Ebay is your friend...Just put in Suzuki GS500 into the search option.Don't buy from anyone with a feedback rating of under 98%.It may take you a few weeks to find what you need, but there is usually some good buys. :thumb:
Thanks!
still tryin to find what i need so far the website if found is the cheapest is Ronayers.com
for parts 1 , 2 , 11, 13 the total is 132.26 thats not including shipping or the suzuki emblem which is like $10 somethin.
if the bike was tipped over then gas probably came out the overflow tube.
but now that it is upright it should be A OK :thumb:
whew!
thanks!
i was about to wet my paints lol
i love this bike!
and would hate to see it die cuz of my mistakes!

will this part fit my GS500E? it says GS500F
me thinks so
ask the OTHERS :icon_lol:
well just ordered my parts!
1, 2, 11, 3 of #12, 13
alright! don't you love waiting for parts!
let us know when you are all done!
goooooood luck
Most def.
hate waiting esp. a week!
anyways its going to rain next week so i guess it'll give me time to cool off and recover lol!
my stomach slammed into the gas tank. sucks.
Figure out why/how you crashed. Tell us so we can learn with you.
Buy case guards. IIRC they're around $50, and they'll, well, save your cases. :)
Congrats on still being a walker ! :)
ok it went down like this. i'm at the stop light waiting to turn left.
i have my blinkers, breaks applied lights working, everything a safe driver would need to do to turn left.
light turns green white car on the other lane lets me go then changes it mind when i'm half way through the turn speeds up almost hits me.
my hand i guess caught the throttle bad lost control i applied clutch and both brakes but by the time i did i was in wet grass sliding towards a street light post.
after all that the guy gunned it and drove off a van behind it asked me if i was alright and some guy pulled over and thought i broke my shoulder since it was all muddy.
he helped me with my bike up and helped me walk my gloves and helmet back to my house which is the first right after the left. -_-
the whole day was good i did't speed i did everything i suppost to i even check the mirrors before i left the house. turned my blinker on everytime i turned and turned my head around to double check.
i don't know why this happens to me :dunno_white: just the worst of luck.
funny thing is i drove that bike from the person i bought it from like atleast 20 mines away back to my home in windy, medium rain, and pot hole city roads.
and did perfectly fine, and i was idling low and so my bike kept on stalling out on me.
but none the less i did superb considering it was my first day on the road.
now i have to wait a week for processing and another week prob. for shipping...
so life lesson never go when someone says they going to let u go. esp. in south carolina.
Look at it this way: You've gotten the first scratch out of the way, once you patch the bike back up you can enjoy it without fear of dropping it.
i'm actually glad i went out and bought a used bike i would die if this happend to a new bike
Glad you're ok.
You said you are a new rider right? Have you taken a MSF course. They are well worth the money. Also, thank goodness you were a helmet. Do you have jacket, pants, gloves, and boots? If not you should have these as well. And you got to wear them. Trust me a short jaunt from home can have a painful and embarassing effect on you and your moto! I'm learning this painful lesson right now! Eighty degrees sunny and beautiful and I'm in a walking cast!

I got into the same kind of trouble with my bike (GS500E) near tampa,fl. I wonder if i can repair this bike myself. Tang, can u show us some pictures of what those parts u ordered look like? I wonder if i need to change the signal generator rod(the one in the middle). My bike doesnt start anymore. Hopefully i didnt trash this bike's engine. Any help is appreciated.

i'll try to get pictures up although everything is put together and running \
i think the thing in the middle is the ignition thing i' not sure but i had to take that oil cover due to the bolt slots holding the cranckcase cover snapped off so i had to buy a gasket for that side and that big crankcase cover and that crankcase embelm cover and don't forget to buy the gasket
u need 13,11,1,2,and maybe 3 number 12's
cheapest place i found it was Ronayers all that for like 150 thats including shipping
http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/2/Make/Suzuki/YearID/39/Year/1998/ModelID/6280/Model/GS500E/GroupID/257081/Group/CRANKCASE_COVER
Thanks for the quick reply. I will certainly choose ronayers.com to buy these parts. I have to recover from my bruises(mostly scrapes) before I can think about buying. I wonder if that thing(a circular bolt) in the center is? Is it supposed to move freely?

Glad to hear you are ok. Maybe you should start a new thread describing the issues with your bike and we can all help you sort it out?
