Title: initial oil change help!!!!!!PEASE RESPOND!!!!
Post by: Eric5460 on April 04, 2008, 05:06:22 PM
After the first 600 miles or so i performed the 600 mile service. after i changed the oil, I noticed a faint difference in sound at about 8000 RPMs but stopped after 9000 RPM's is this normal or is this something i need to worry about....

the gs makes nice rattles throughout the rpm range. you may want to check your mounting bolts.

do you know the proper method for checking the oil ? unscrew the dipstick, wipe, SET it back in the hole, then CHECK. do not check from a screwed in position.

congrats :)

oh, what oil are you using ?

600mi, 9000 rpm? - aren't you meant to be on your break-in process?  :icon_mrgreen: :icon_razz:

I have an early VW Beetle..and my GS.I think they were twins seperated at birth. They both sound as if you have a can of ball bearings rollling around inside a large duffle bag thats filled with shipping peanuts. :icon_mrgreen: Yep....they are suppose to sound like that. ;)

If your oil level is OK and you used the correct viscosity you're fine.

"new" sounds always seem to crop up after you've done something to a piece of machinery.  Most of the time, it's because you didn't notice them before.   ;)

Never hurts to check though.   :)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My gs sounds slightly different during different times of the same day.  :icon_mrgreen:

Make sure you check the oil on level ground, on the center stand, or in the straight up position.Don't screw the cap in or the oil level will be low.

I'm pretty sure i got the oil level correct and i will check the mounting bolts. i took a long ride afterwards and it rode just fine. Actually I rather like the way its sounding. should i still take it in even if the performance is fine. the sound that you described hits the mark perfectly. so if that sound is normal, i'll just enjoy it!!!
