Well, I think it is gas. It was coming out as a couple tablespoons everytime I rode, but I had a carb issue (slow circuit clog) and the petcock was plumbed incorrectly the last time the carb was removed (40 miles ago). I fixed the carb from and the plubming problem and the bike is running great. The oil smelled a little like gas and came out (hot) very watery when I changed the oil. If the prime was constantly running due to the bad plumbing and I got gas in my oil, what issues should I look out for? I have since changed the oil and everything seems fine. Any ideas?
THANKS!
alittle dirt on your carbs float needles creating a slow leak?
Sounds like a float hanging open, letting gas over flow the carb and down the intake.Where it trickles down the exhaust valve, past the piston and into the oil sump.Running out of the air box is the next place it will come out of.You may need to replace the needle and seat assembly. When you park your bike over night or extended periods, put it on the center stand.Make sure the petcock is in the ON position,or if you've done the no vacuum mod,in the PRI position.Be careful with this.If the engine back fires thru the carbs, it could start a fire inside the carbs and air box.
What are you getting on your 'Float Height Check'?
I have taken care of the problem with the carbs and it is no longer draining anything from the airbox, but my concern is with long-term damage to the engine from any gas mixing with the oil. I have changed the oil and oil filter. Is there anything else I need to do or look out for?

Nope.I'd let it idle with the choke on for about 5 minutes before I rode. This will insure that all lubricated surfaces are coated with fresh clean oil.Leaving the choke on and letting it run at high idle will raise the oil pressure forcing any fuel residue out.If the is any gas residue it will be caught by the filter or be vaporized and blown out the valve cover vent.Keep an eye on your air filter for oily residue. It may need to be changed.
What did you do to "take care of it"?
Did you find out the actual cause?
I pulled the carbs and took them to my mechanic who diagnosted and fixed a "slow circuit clog". I don't think this was the problem, but it was good to have it fixed. When I reassembled the bike using Kerry's hose diagram I found out that the last guy to take the carbs off put the hoses on incorrectly and I think that the "on" position on the petcock was actually priming the carbs. I fixed the plumbing and now all is well with the world.
I'm starting to wonder about the "slow circuit" on my bike. Had the carbs off this weekend, but couldn't see anything plugged and it looks like new inside (i.e. no varnishing, etc.)
I pushed air backwards through any ports I could access and they all seemed to be free. But I expect to have the carbs off again in a week or two because I have a K&N filter for it and need to rejet when my kit comes in, so I'll take another look at it then.
Thanks.
