Title: Do neck bearings make clunking noise
Post by: The Buddha on April 08, 2008, 11:54:40 AM
My virago 1100 seems to have somehting in the neck area that makes a soft clunk when I hit squarish bumps. However it steers great ... and a big heavy ass bike, that is an accomplishment in itself.
Anyone know if neck bearings can do that ??? wont the steering go first ...
Cool.

Like you say its a big and heavy bike.....if the bearings are partly shagged or in need of nipping up the problem might not show itself until the weight is off the forks. Jack the fecker up under the sump, get all the weight off the forks and try wiggling them.

ya, just like my gs did a while back. mine was more a tink but ya.

could be stiction in the sliders too ya know. a regular bump is a gradual rise, a squarish bump is a sudden abrupt rise, and if there is any stiction at all, you'll feel it on that kinda bump.

K it was other assorted crap bashing each other ... but final analysis to be done, some bushings have to die ... and get replaced I am sure. Suddelnly started this morning ... grrrr ...
