Title: Making a shorty exhaust
Post by: bucks1605 on April 08, 2008, 07:20:08 PM
I've got an after market exhaust and it has quite a bit of road rash at the very end. How easy is it to make it into a shorty?  Anybody done this before?

drill out end cap rivets, cut to desired length, drill rivet holes and rivet cap back on.

like importbabe said, it ain't difficult, just a little time. make sure you check your mixture (plug chops) after you get done. it may change the flow and/or the backpressure a good deal.

one of the guys on a local ride has a really nice sounding shorty pipe. only problem when we pulled his plugs at a gas up they were completely white with ash and almost gone !

That would give me an opportunity to rejet, which I really want to anyway. I made the mistake of putting a Dynojet kit on a few years back and the bike has never run right since. I've got it close, but there is still a flat spot around 5,000 rpm. Problem is I had to drill the slides for the kit, and replacements are like $40 apiece.
