Title: HELP!!! Seized Engine
Post by: themarsvolta on April 09, 2008, 09:10:09 PM
Hi Everyone,

I need some suggestions about my 2004 gs500f.  It only has around 4500 miles on it.  It seems the engine has seized up.  It won't start.  I can (in gear) move is a few feat backwards and it seems the engine will try to rev, but then sounds like it gets stuck on something.  I can't move it more that a foot or so both ways in gear.  Is there a quick fix or is my engine toast?

Thanks!

Is there a good reason why a 2004 GS might be seized up at only 4500 miles?!  :o

edit: corrected bike year to 2004

If the engine has sized because of internal damage then it would be best to find a used engine. You could have goats syndrome but it's a long shot.

When yo check the oil,do it with the bike on the center stand,on level ground, and don't screw in the dip stick. If you haven't been doing it this way the oil level could have been off causing the engine to lock up.Where are you located? There maybe a GS member willing to take a look at it.

Try charging the battery, I had a problem a bit like that and that solved it. Started bricking it because i'd only had it a month or two, but it started up a dream after a good overnight charge.... made me feel pretty stupid though

By the way, does your bike have any relation to this 2004 with a seized engine?

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for your tips....At first I thought it was my battery...replaced it a couple of weeks ago.  Still no luck.  I haven't had time to try any ot the suggestions yet. I live about 25 mins. east of St. Louis MO in Highland, IL.   I'll let you all know how it goes!!!

Thanks Again!!!
