Title: Fork Oil Capacity
Post by: PuraVidaGS500 on April 10, 2008, 07:58:09 AM
Hi, does anyone know the fork oil capacity of a 94 GS500, or, is there a location on the bike where it might be listed?

Thank You,
Kelly

The following threads in the FAQ give some useful information:

http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=16318.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=16318.0)
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=25706.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=25706.0)

In particular, step 11a of the second link says "Measure out between 375mL and 382mL of new fork oil"

:)

I think you mean fully compressed?

Also, 4.5" = 114 mm - this seems to be greater spacing (i.e. less oil) than recommended by Haynes?

**Note for original poster: All measurements quoted here assume that the stock springs are being used. Oil level will be different for Progressive or other springs because the spring volume is different than stock.**

From Haynes (RE: GS500 '89 - '97):

Fork oil type SAE1OW fork oil

Fork oil capacity:
UK K, L, and M models, and all US models 382 cc
UK N, P, R, S, T and V models 377 cc

Fork oil level
UK K, L, and M models, and all US models 99 mm
UK N, P, R, S, T and V models  105 mm

Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork spring removed and the leg fully compressed
