Title: spring/summer season
Post by: Jlittle on April 11, 2008, 11:20:05 AM
So it starting to get warm again and it been riding my 05 GS all winter.  I put 5k miles on it over the winter. 2 oil changes and new tires.  Its so nice out and im putting my new fairing on today and gonna do some maintance on her.  Anything in particular i should look at?  Also im starting to get a very low vibration can barlyey feel it but pulses very slow around 5200 rpm and when i give it alittle or less throttle it goes away...  Any ideas?

If you've been riding all winter, just keep going!  :icon_mrgreen:  The only reason you would need any special maintenance is if you were taking it out of winter storage.

Weird, but I noticed the same thing yesterday. To me, it feels like some sort of resonance from the fuel tank. I'm gonna top up and hope it goes away.  :thumb:

depending on how many miles you have on her you may want to consider having the valves checked and the carbs

5K in 3 months.... there moust be snow where you are at ... :)

where you feel the vibration in the handlebars or in your crotch ?  if handlebar could be anything related to the front end forks/wheels if in the crotch could be the tank, rear wheel/chains slap (slack ?)..etc

Ditto on feeling the tank vibration. Mine was, in fact, the fuel tank. I checked the gasket holding it off the frame, and there was a bit of free play. Worse, the gasket was falling off (since you've an 05, I doubt that's it). In any case, at varying rpms, the tank would pulse with a different sound. Sometimes not noticable, other times getting louder at around 3k.

If there's ever metal on metal, it sounds truly terrifying and sounds like the front wheel is trying to break loose. If you find a way to really insulate the vibration (if it is the tank), pls let me know.  O0

you gots the buzzy bees in the tank sound !

when your tank is 3/4 or so full, and at a certain rpm, it will buzz like angry bees are in there. sometimes low, sometimes high.

fill up your tank all the way, see if it quits. no  ? ok, empty it into a gas can and fill it up with only a couple gallons - now is it gone ?

no ? ok, start looking for loose engine mounting bolts.

:)

A full tank of gas seems to have corrected the problem for me.  :thumb:
