Title: GS sleeps on the job ... Carbs?
Post by: groff22 on April 14, 2008, 12:36:03 PM
Well trying to get the GS out of winter hibernation and after 4 years, I think there's some carb probs creeping in

The bike starts with the choke fully on, but doesn't rev above 1.5 unless I blip the throttle. After a few minutes, I can blip the throttle and have it stay at 4k with choke fully on... if I don't touch it, the RPM slowly drop and the bike sputters, then dies. I can keep playing with the throttle to keep the bike alive but there's something wrong. This sounds like carb issue right? I put stabil in before winter and the bike has a full tank of fuel.

Also, does anyone know where to get washers to rejet a stock 04? I figure if I"m going to tear into the carbs, I might as well rejet the bike in accordance to the WIKI's 01+ listing:

Yea yea some sheite is clogged up. Crack it open boys. The washers are #4's and available at most hardware stores. Real hardware stores, not Lowes/HD.
Cool.

Alrighty... Took carbs apart this morning and soaked the jets with PJ1 Carb Cleaner ... also sprayed some in the throat and worked it in... After all was said an done, she fired right up and idles a lot better!

Also had my first ride of the season and the GS runs better than I remember 8) .. even on 6 month old gas. Can't wait to change the oil, put in new sparkplugs and fresh gas ...

Hope you had the same luck CD!

Cheers,
J
