it is the cable directly connected to the housing for the cutoff switch

oh man when in doubt trust the site.   i doubt if even suzuki itself has done more hands on research than the combined membership of this board.

What year is your bike? The newer ones use 2 cables. They both run from the twist grip to the carb. When you apply throttle one cable pulls and the other just goes along for the ride. When the throttle returns to idle the other cable pulls and the throttle cable goes along for the ride.To simplify it,the system kind of works like a push pull system.

Use THIS diagram to help you figure out which one you need; the one you linked to isn't as clear:

Look at the TOPS of the cables; can you see the differences between the two? If not, examine the drawing CAREFULLY, until you can see what look like OBVIOUS differences to me.

Cable #24 has a metal ring hanging from it (near the top), while cable #25 has what looks like a knurled knob or adjuster. MATCH the drawing of each cable to what you have; that will tell you which one you're missing.

Maybe NOW you'll understand why I posted the link to this same image in your other thread (in the "For Sale" section). The cables ARE different, and you SHOULD be able to tell them apart, with the help of the drawing, which I've embedded into this reply.

OK, glad to know you're on the right track now. Let us know which one you need, and maybe someone here will have one to sell you. Just to include all of the details within this thread, here's the information on the part numbers from the other thread:

Number 24 is listed as "CABLE ASS'Y, THROTTLE NO. 1", Suzuki part number 58300-01DA0, while number 25 is listed as "CABLE ASS'Y, THROTTLE NO. 2", Suzuki part number 58300-01DB0.

Just for the record, the ORIGINAL wersions of the GS500 ('89 - '00) only use ONE throttle cable, which is "CABLE ASS'Y, THROTTLE, 58300-01D10". The three-stage carbs introduced with the '01+ models (with pilot, mid-main, and main jets) use the dual cable system.

Hope you find what you need quickly.
