okay, the wife thinks for a first pet in the new home a cat would be a better choice than a dog because they tend to require less maint usually. we've owned a cat before and she was a great pet. kept to herself most of the time. we got rid of her though when my wife got pregnant. the little hussy got mean. i don't know why. she was fine before the pregnancy. :dunno_white: anyhow, since we aren't having anymore kids, i suppose a cat would make a cool companion for my little ones. it would eat less than a dog so i think it would be cheaper too. besides, can't ever have enough kitty cat in the house. well, i'm not wanting a mangy cat. i want something sexy and stylish yet playful. independent but a good playmate for the kids too. and i don't want one that sheds 10 pounds of fur everyday. any suggestions from other cat owners here? :dunno_white:
a hairless cat!

Seriously, Sphinx cats are really cool, they feel like suede covered hot water bottles, don't shed ( probably need to wear little cat sweaters when it's cold though. ) My poodle pup was raised with one. They are expensive, but it's got to be worth it not to have cat hair on everything, even your food. That's why I have a Poodle, they are one of THE smartest dogs, are great people pleasers, are actually water retrievers (bred to fetch ducks etc. for hunters) and they do NOT shed. Plus they're really hypo-allergenic, like the Sphinx.
I reallly really really hate being a dog owner but my wife wanted a new puppy and brought home a rescued pitbull pup new years eve.
Even as fast as she has trained and using a crate for her she has ruined the carpet and carpet pad in our living room and it really pisses me off, especially with the whole submission thing where she gets excited and starts leaking on the damn floor when you go to give her a treat or try to train her and she gets excited. Don't get a dog unless the damn thing can stay outside full time if you don't wan't to f%$k up your carpet. Ok cat's, get one that's older and already litterbox trained, of course I hate litterboxes in my house as well, and if you don't keep it squeeky clean some cats will turn there nose up at it and just piss on any random soft spot they can find.
Get something quite and low maintenace, I bought my son a ball python when we lived in an apartment. Stays in cage that doesn't need cleaned everyday like a cat box does. Only needs fed once a week to 2 weeks and just needs the water tray topped off occasionally to promote proper humidity and offer the snake a soking spot.
i have a cockerspaniel and HE ROCKS! It took him 1 week of crate training and he was pee free after that :icon_mrgreen: He was SUPER easy to train and is an AWESOME companion. He also only eats about one 10lb bag of food a month :thumb: We have a cat too but he makes more of a mess on the carpet than the dog hackin up furballs and crap
I say buy a dog! =) cockerspaniels are one of the easiest to train and best companion you could ask for.
One thing about cats, you can make some cool davey crockett type hats out of them. :thumb:

Plus you can use a cat as a siren, just swing it around over your head by it's tail.

if you let it soak in the sun a while, a dead one will clear a room QUICK that way !
fresh kills are better for hats though.

i've got a maltese and never in a million years thought I'd get a little ghey dog. We're talking this is a paris skankin dog. After a few months he grew on me and is one of the coolest little guys ever. He is really cuddly, loves to snuggle up with the wife and me during a movie, rips around the house when he's bored, and he doesn't bark except the times you want him to; which are the door and people around your house. Maltese as well as a few others don't shed at all because they grow hair and not fur. That means no cat hair all over you and your furniture. Low maintenance, way smarter and more fun than a cat, and they don't claw you just because they didn't like something. Here's some pics:
