Title: Old clip ons, on a newer bike. something like that. . . . .
Post by: ejudasf on April 20, 2008, 06:33:06 PM
Hello people.

I love reading responses.

Anyway, I purchased some '89 clip-ons from a forum member.    It wasn't hard to change out at all, but there were some 'issues'.

I did this with the bike on the center stand, so I wasn't "test-riding" just yet.

1st one was when turning towards the right, applying a little throttle, it would stick and go higher.

I did a search and found a couple of threads that talk about this.

**What kind of lubricant should one use for lubing the cables?**

I ended up re-routing the throttle cable, like towards the left side and then to the right.  I tried to take a pic, but it didn't capture what I needed.  OKAY.

Now it it better.  It still sticks, but not as bad as before.  Actually it is only slight.

2nd, is a BETTER 'problem' to have.   I used to have to choke the engine at start up.  Now I don't.  It doesn't run 100% without the choke, but it will stay on longer than before.  Now the choke has to be on, like only 10 seconds or so.  The engine is running very well now.

Here is a pic of the original bars that I took off.  I MIGHT sell them.  It depends on how I really like the clip-ons.

Here are the clip-ons, installed....  I need the bar-ends.

They give the 'more aggressive' feel, and they also make the bike feel a little more "quick" on turns.  I can't explain, but it feels better in my little opinion.

Already put 40 miles with the clip-ons, and can't wait to put more.

Laterz peoples.

TOO FUNNY!

horns.

I didn't know what had happened to them either.  My bro gave me this bike.  When I would ask why the levers were bent like that, he prolly did tell me, but I was either thinking about something else, or we were too drunk to carry on a conversation.

Anyhow, I finally found out that he had, in fact, had the bike dropped.  Wind, or other people just messing around.

The levers never broke, so I don't know how other levers would feel.  I might get some new ones.  But later later.

I don't have any back problems.  Yet.  I hope I don't ever.

I am sure riding a cruizer bike, with ape bars might be a little more comfy, but there is a thing about these little GS's that I can't explain.  I know they aren't the fastest bike out there, but they do get you around.
