Well we got a new motherboard and such for our Inspiron 8600. I swapped everything around and now we have a new problem. The monitor is just white with grey vertical broad stripes, and an assortment of thin vertical lines in many colors (mostly green, red, and yellow). Any ideas?
My first thought is "the monitor is shot so I'll just hook up to another monitor". No good. The computer has VGA and S-Video outputs but I plugged into both and got no signal.
Any help would be appreciated!
...currently posting from broken laptop...
Not sure exactly how I got it all working but I managed to get my laptop to work with an external monitor. Stock monitor no longer works.
This leaves me with a couple questions:
First, if I run with a full time external monitor, how do I get the computer to bypass the stock LCD all together? I'll want to abandon it. No need for this big white screen.
Second, what can be wrong with the stock screen? It's not cracked and it has never been broken. The display is as described above...white and grey very broad vertical bars with a few odd colored vertical lines. Really needing some help with it. I'm told there's a converter between the vid card and the monitor...could that be part of it?
I have messed with and repaired a lot of older Compaq Presario laptops, but no Dells.
First, double-check the connectors on the motherboard end and the monitor end. Are they fully seated and correctly oriented (usually they'll only go one way)?
To bypass the LCD on the laptop, you just need to know the hotkey that switches monitors. A quick Google should tell you that. My Compaq toggles between laptop only, both external and laptop, and external only. It's a combination like Fn-F5 (Fn = function key).
It sucks that the motherboard replacement didn't solve all the issues!
I was running my sony vaio thro my 46 inch LCD tv , look on control panel , and it will be on there
There will be Options to use it as a extended monitor or one or the other , i was running thro a S video coz this damn vaio doesnt support HDMI :(
I've been told that it may be the converter between the motherboard and the lcd and that it is replaceable, but I have yet to find a place that sells this piece. Does anyone know anything about this?
