Not one comment on the board? I thought I did good to find out such detailed information. Well I'm excited anyway
is that a PS job?!? pretty good. I hope its true. I might just hafta get one. :thumb:
Fairings are expensive things...
I pose a question:
Would you pay the same amount as a SV650 for a faired version of a GS500 even if it was fuel injected and had slightly fatter tyres?! I know that I wouldn't!
Stay Safe :thumb:
I would think thay could come in at a price under $5000 -they would almost have to.
So for another $1000 you dont think people would move towards the SV650? Your getting a lot more bike for your extra $1000, in my opinion!

Naked for me thats the beauty of the gs to see the motor
I thought the GS was geared to beginers... you don't want a full faring on a beginer bike!

Well, the ninja250 seemed to do well with that handicap.
But I agree, they should install the fairing at the 1000-mile service :) . And make it pop on and off quickly with only a hex wrench.
I don't think it would cost too much to add; fiberglass is cheap. The windscreen would cost as much as the fiberglass. If the aftermarket folks can sell them for $700, then produced in-quantity, I don't see it raising the cost (to Suzuki) by more than $200. $300 if you count shipping and dealer assembly cost.
As far as fuel injection, it might actually save them some money, if Suzuki can reduce the number of parts they sell.
Naked Shmaked. That fairing is cool. If Zuki were to make a fully faired GS, I hope they make that fairing a universal fit for the previous years of GS's. Same for the headlight....I wouldn't mind driving a mini-gixxer around..hehe
Fuel-injected though? Come on. On a GS? Maybe we can retro-fit that too. Here's hopin'. ;)
OEM fairings are usually fiber reinforced ABS plastic. The injection molds that are used to produce all the parts for a model specific fairing would be close to $250,000, if not more.
"IF" this actuallly comes true, right now its just rumor and wishful thinking. As much as I love the GS, I don't see why they are reintroducing it when they have the SVs, unless Suzuki thinks that it is in the niche with the EX250s and 500s while the SV is more in the 600 class.
Maybe they looked at the sales figures for both Kawi and Suzuki dealers and saw a jump in EX sales without the GS there. Who knows...
I would imagine the fairing will be TCP's version. It was offered as an OEM fairing in Europe.
What would be cool (but is pure wishful speculation) is if with the Kawi/Zuki "cooperation" going on, that the GS & EX got melded into the same bike just rebadged for each make similar to what they have done in the dirtbikes. GS frame with an EX engine rapped up in new bodywork would be sweet!
But will it happen? Nope :nana:
OFF with that fairing.... :o

I see she wants that custom title...
Go on John, Give it TO HER. Complete with Q o hearts avatar. :)
Nooooooo.....:o :P
I'll believe it when I see it......
and after I see it I'll get the injection off it and put it on my bike :thumb:
Yeah, thats cool. I like the naked look though. Thats why I bought a GS500, not a Ninga500. It would be cool though.

I think something 600/650/1200'S would look ok...but anything further would just be too much.
However, I think the little scoop at the bottom would then be needed...whatever that is called.
Bummer.
The GS doesn't need a fairing! It needs an 8 valve head, liquid cooling, and fuel injection.
Throw on a better front end and a real shock and yer done.
They could do all of this with a "parts-bin" approach.
Bastards...
Nice work John.
I'd be nice to think that Suzuki realized there IS a market for the gs500 (as there is for the EX250/500) and reimport it. But, given the huge success of the sv650, why should they...
On a side note, Holeshot will not be developing any exhausts for the gs500 as I had talked to them about...too much interest in developing new parts for the 03 sv650/1k. Too busy with that and no real market for his products for a gs500 (i.e. parts would be too expensive for the market).
If we're voting on it, I say nay - axe the fairing and keep it naked!

I agree, except I don't want the liquid cooling. Besides I already have a bike :) :) !
And I am kinda partial to just having 4 valves, too; from a mechanics point of view...
I don't think the motor needs more power (liquid cooled, 4 valves, etc). That's what the 650 is for. To better fill the "commuter bike" nitch the fairing would provided a boost in wind and weather protection as well as milage and the new light would probably give better night visability.
So from a commuter standpoint the GS500S would be preferable to a GS500E but the E would be better for beginners. Since there are SO MANY GS500Es out there I imagine very few poeple are buying them new as a beginner bike. Where as a "commuter" or "butget minded" experianced rider would appreciate the advatages of this proposed "S". I doubt it will be fuel injected though. That's a LOT of additional expense for something that's not focused on power. The only reason I could see it being FI would be for emissions.
FI...I belive they are just going to slap one on from the GSXR 00- and download a new map. Yea those things will fit 2 GS'es a piece and their tools is just lying about going to waste. The full fairing already has tooling .... They used to sell factory accessories in europe, maybe it only has a new/different upper... Anyway I like the fact that it will have parts I experiment with in the future but hate that fairing...what do I care anyway I'll put the headlights from the older bike or make some up anyway...Keep it comming Suzuki...
Cool.
Srinath.
I just hopw I am close with the description I got. May be able to get a photo but things have to fall in to p[lace for that to happen. The fake fairing I made wa from the detailed description I got.
FWIW I hope it has throttle bodies so jetting bacomes a thing of the past. Srinath is right, they could use 2 from the GSX-R and use the cheapest ECM possible. How complicated does a fuel map have to be for a parallel twin? Not too complex I bet.
WTF are they thinking? A full fairing on an air-cooled bike?
If I want to roast my legs sitting in traffic (not to mention how hot the internals of the motor would get), I can do that on my TT600, and that's even water-cooled.
The katana 600, isn't exactly a popular bike. Why would anyone want a parellel twin version of it?
o well just keep lookin for it in the motorcycle ,agazines. i guarantee if an 04 comes out motorcyclist or cycle world would be all over it. i read that one back in december of last year and they said it was a shame they arent going to make it anymore and i agree. get rid of that ugly fairing though.
if it has more than a qtr fairing I wouldn't be interested... all the other stuff has possibilities, but nekkid and 500 is what got my attention. bigger and cooler than a 250 but still manageable for someone who doesn't need death-on-wheels, and is only 5'5"... and not all the silly plastic... now mind you if you need the plastic, go ahead and add it on, that's what all the aftermarket is for.
but if the gs500 weren't what it is, I wouldn't have a bike of my own or be riding.
i think they should go with a bikini fairing....like that 1100 kawi but not so old school....maybe like the new z1000? i would like some wind protection but naked is cool too...
So Suzuki might sell a GS500 in the States for 2004???
No, I did not bother to read the 30 or so post before mine so if I say the same thing as other then I am sorry but here goes!
I would guess that most on this site have a GS500 beause it was a good deal or a great beginer bike or a bit of both but at some point they will out grow it and buy something different or they are still riding a GS500 that they have had for ten years and it has only 3000 miles and really do not see a reason to buy a new one or buy a differnt bike and they really do not care about the 2004 GS500 and the rest on this site are looking at the SV650, GSXR, CBR600 or maybe even the Harley site for their next ride and they do in the back of their mind care about the 2004 GS500 but it is just in the back of their mind.
Do you think that the owner of a 1972 Ford Pinto in 1972 wnnt to the Ford dealer to check out the 1973 Ford Pinto when they wanted to buy a new car? I really do not think so!!! I would guess they went to the dealer and sat in Mustang! They grew out of the Pinto.
Well I am very very interested in the 2004 GS man...and I am definitely not one you have described...8 years, 45K on 3 GS'es...The perfect bike for me...and a 2004 if it is made and sold in US will probably be in my garage (right around 2014) fairing or not...and see a fairing will inject new life into a bike which is already pretty popular and it will get the aftermarket interested in it again and so on...
Cool.
Srinath.
I agree with Srinath. I love my bike. I'll never outgrow it. Theres no reason to. Some people need horsepower that they'll never even use. Thats not me. I do however own a 2002, so I wouldn't consider buying it , but I would look at it.

If the end product looks anything like that sweet faired GS in the Hall of Fame then I have no problem with it.
Maybe 'zuki will take a look at those pics!
You can see photos of it on the Suzuki website. :thumb:
Now that I think about it, they should go with a bikini or windshield fairing. I do like sport bikes with full fairings, but not a factory GS(even though I'm putting full fairing on my bike - and buying a new bike). They could surely stiffen up the suspension though.
