Title: SEA FOAM DIDN'T WORK
Post by: philly0128 on April 25, 2008, 05:59:44 PM
Hello everyone. This is a great board from what i've been reading thus far! I recently bought a 06 gs500 and it's also my 1st bike. I did a search and read some threads that recommend sea foam.

My bike has that putput stutter when idle and sometimes it cut off when i'm at a stop and trying to take off again even in 1st gear, The bike jerks alot. The bike only has 5k on it and recently had an oil change. I followed the instructions and use 6oz for ever 2-4gal I think it said. I poured it in the gas tank and reved the bike up, did that for about 15 mins.

I thought maybe I didn't put enough b/c I didn't get any smoke coming out like i've seen on youtub videos, per the instructions and from what I've read on this board. So then I poured in 1/2 the bottle and let it rev up for about 5 mins and still nothing. then I poured the whole bottle in, I figured b/c I had a full tank it was probably taking awhile to go through and NOTHING, no smoke for me to see it's working and the bike is the same. I went out riding right after and put about 8 miles on the bike and it's still jerking and puttering while in idle.

I'm looking at a 300 bill if I take it to a shop. any suggestions? PS: Also poured STP fuel injection cleaner in it yesterday.

I don't know anything about bike parts yet and how to do things on my own, I would like to learn so if anyone knows of a good place that maybe shows video tutorials or a place to get a 2006 manual that would be GREAT!

Thanks

You are off to a bad start.. Putting bottles of crap in there isnt going to fix anything.

Have you checked your plugs? how about the air filter? basic maintenance is much better money spent than buying mechanic in a bottle.  :thumb:

Would fuel injector cleaner do anything to a bike that isn't fuel injected?

I thought 06 where fuel inject? at least that's what i've been reading on some boards. i'm trying to find a manual or somewhere that have screen shots to go along w/ how to do the basic. i don't know alot of people who ride and those I know take their bikes to the shop.

You had way plenty Seafoam in there, if it's in the gas you need to run a few tanks through. It's running it directly through the carbs that makes the smoke. I used it in my gas (not more than an ounce a gallon) for a couple of months, my carbs were nice and clean but it didn't help the hesitation or starting or idle. THAT changed with a rejet. I still use the Seafoam every few tanks because I top off a lot, I don't generally ever use a full tank.

Does it run better with the choke on? If it does you may have clogged low speed jets.

...

All years are carbed. They have not changed (except for carb model & size) and probably will never be FI. What boards are saying FI?
