Title: got laid over!
Post by: bombadillo on April 25, 2008, 06:29:43 PM
Well, what a great day, all is well and then all of a sudden someone comes up to my work and says your bikes laying on its side.  I think they're joking as usual, and he had a serious look on his face.  Well he wasn't, I walked outside to find my bike on its side in a big puddle of gas and was pissed.  The lady that hit it told me that she'll take care of it and she didn't want to tell her husband.  As of what I see, I have a small couple of dents in the tank from the controls, the drag bars are bent, the levers broken off, and my motrax bar end mirror snapped off.  I'm gonna have to order all three parts so which way should I go.  I could go mx bars style and give a little rise compared to the drag bars, I can get crg lanesplitter mirrors now which I wanted anyway, and as far as levers go, what fit our bike.  Links with prices is best but what do you guys do to change out levers.  Also, what color to paint now???

take comfort in the notion that the lady had the honesty to admit to her error.

I got a break lever form this outfit on ebay and it worked out great.

Sorry to hear that, at least she stayed and now you get to upgrade at her expense.  ;)

Lanesplitter mirrors

Could probably get them cheaper on ebay

Levers are easy to replace, I'm looking at my clutch assembly right now and all you have to do is remove the clutch cable then unscrew one nut and the lever should come off. Looks fairly similar on the mc side.

I know there is a thread around here somewhere about levers.

Ah, here it is

I've done business with this guy before.

As far as bars go here are a few options in the 7/8' variety

DID you get a police report? :o

naw, it is kind of a rat bike anyway.  The tank only has a small dent in it and easily fixed.  You're probably right though.  I don't really want to make her buy me a 1500 dollar bike if I could get 500 or more for extra parts and a new paint job professionally done.  She really didn't want her husband to know about it so we talked about settling it outside of insurance.  I did get her name, phone numbers, license plate number, and insurance info for good measure, but she said she'd just pay me cash.  I'll see how much its gonna cost. I'm thinking about doing the felipe style motocross bars and see where that takes me.

When my bike was knocked over in Feb. it did almost seven hundred bucks of damage! Granted I have a "F" model. Unfortunately, no one at my complex would own up to it. So, slow but sure it is coming back to life. Make sure you take pics though sometimes it takes awhile to see damage to a bike. For instance when I fell over on March 21 I didn't immediately see any damage to my bike. Today when wiping it down I noticed that the clutch bar is bent and will need to be replaced so take a long good look over it. Leave it a couple of days and do it again.

Just my two cents!

Even if it is, should I give it up to the insurance company and take the fifteen hundred and be bikeless??

I say you should just fix what's broken. Don't punish her for being honest.

Yeah, you wouldn't wanna leave a bad taste in her mouth.  She was honest and is going to have to pay for the broken stuff.  If it's too harsh, she may just drive off next time without saying a thing!

Have her write and sign a description of what happened and what she intends to do to correct it :thumb: And quickly get $500-700 out of her  :thumb: CASH ONLY  :icon_mrgreen:

I agree that if its only worth $1500 you are better off getting some $$ from her

yeah, I didn't really want to be a jerk about it as blue book only lists it at 1500.  She could've just left, and she was in a big hurry and flat didn't see it.  In reality it'll only cost about 150 to fix it and its ridable again.  I just don't want to look at a big ding in the tank every time I get on it.

Well, I think i'm going pro taper gold dirt bars with 1 1/8" adapter, black crg hindsight ls mirrors, and the carbon shift levers off of the ebay guy everybody seems to like.  Its too bad he doesn't make them gold also.  Whadaya'll think??  I liked importbabe's bars a lot so thats kinda the style i'm gonna try.  I'm also going to get a superbike bar for 12.99 off chaparral just in case those don't work out.  I'm gonna throw on a stainless front brake line while i'm at it.  Now the big question is that its gonna be painted again.  What color should I go with.  Currently it looked like this:

Should I do a gloss or matte black again or what color.  The wheels are bronze, and I really don't wanna do those again.

the frame is what limits the bikes color schemes. a flat metallic green would look cool with those wheels, but the silver frame would make it all wrong. :(

i like the color it is now. :)
