hey I think I want to put a kat shock on my bike. would this help with handeling when riding with my gf? is there any specific years of kat shock i need?
Heck yeah it would help riding solo!
Look for one that doesn't have a reservoir, off of a 600. I think the 750s have the res?? IMO newer is better, but that's just me, I have an '05 on my '01. But you should do the front fork springs too, it makes the bike feel more balanced, and the Katana shock lifts the GS at the tail and seat height, so it changes the rake/trail a bit, and you'll get a quicker turn in. Check on eBay or Kat Riders to find one.
This combined with a new set of springs are the best two upgrades you can do to your bike. I bought a kat 600 shock and race tech springs, but before I even tested them out I bought a kat f/e. Like Teek said keep an eye on ebay. I'd also join up at katriders.com recently there was a 600 shock that went for free, you pay shipping.
ok what is the resivoir for?
definaly check ebay i picked up a kat reare setup for 33 bux shiped 8)
I have a 95 750 Kat shock and progressive springs with 15w fork oil.I am in the process of reassembling my bike and using a 97 750 Kat shock and a 95 750 Kat front end.Any year from 89+ will work. Here's some links to review.

so can a shock with a resivor be used?
Some people have used them. They zip tie the res to the frame under the seat.
so the resivoir has nothing that needs to do mechanically with the bike it it just for the shock? so which is better resvoir or non?
The res is of no use on the GS.It is something else to break down and cause problems. The ones without the res are the best and most easy to install.
