ive been under alot of stress within the last few weeks. lemme explain. Three weeks ago, a problem with my lung ( right one) also caused my kidneys to shut down. i was talking to the porcelain goddess alot, but didnt think nothing was up cause i wasnt peeing. ANYHOO, me and my ignorant ass was going to try and go to work ( this was on a wednesday evening) well i didnt make it to work. my dad was like "DUDE if i have to, i will come over to your home, beat your ass, and take you to hospital myself" well, when head started spinning i was like k, fine ( at that point my kidneys were non funcional since 11pm the night before. i figure hell ill be out in a few hours, theyre like f%$king hell no youre stayin for a bit. i was too weak to move. or to give a damn at that point. i was in ICU for almost a week. ( WITHOUT insurance of any kind) cept for meds. heh more iv's than i could count etc. all good fun . anyhoo, had several xrays, and one more before i left. the following monday. doctor scary was like i want you to promise me something, im like sure ( i jus wanted to go home), " your xray was quite suspicious", im like k?!?, " i want you to schedule a followup. im like what for? , she was like well, it is one of tqwo things. either cncer or a rther svere pneumonia. im like great. lovely. " will you do this", im like sure np, wel i find out my local health department, has no xray machine. but a neighboring county does. i got that covered., but am stressed. because if it is not pneumonia, ive been doing alot of praying and soul searching, i doubt i will fight it. and the symptoms are returning. kidneys hurting again, coughing etc . anyhoo in closing, every thread which gave me an opportunity to vent no my countries healthcare system, and or lack of insurance ive done so ( vented) so i nt trying to offend anyone. just trying to let off some steam. besides i liek "jousting" with our resident liberals, and occasionally our conservatives. but the liberals put up a good fight . anyhoo on to postwhoring and building up my gs fr the rally, and stuff.
Well holy crap, Yama! I'm so sorry, you have been through the wringer!
I had a kidney thing and no insurance, and a voice in my head (guardian angel?) said you are so sick, if you go home you'll die, go straight to a hospital (I was going home from work, felt like there was a jackhammer in my head, nauseous, loopy, couldn't focus), so went to a private ER near my house that would not take me w/ no money, and they sent me to an urgent care, they said I was too sick for them to touch me, and to go back to the ER, cause they could handle it if I crashed, so I get back in my truck and my head is spinning and I drive back to the ER, and they check me (gave them a credit card for $300 plus) and I have NO MONEY & NO Insurance, so they didn't admit me but the dr. said I should be in ICU with iv antibiotics, so he sends me another 10 miles away at 1 am to an all night drug store to get Cipro and something else, said to take immediately then go to bed and stay there for 3 days! Another day I would have been in septic shock.
So I say rant all the f you want, our health care system sucks.
I hope you are on antibiotics??? Kidneys take some time to heal, but they can take a lot of abuse, are you peeing okay, output wise? Are you drinking fluids? Not just beer? ;) If nothing is coming out get yer ass back into the hospital ASAP! They'll possibly write a lot of it off if you have no money or insurance.
It's probably pnemonia, some @$$hole dr. said the same thing to my mom (you're a smoker, it's lung cancer), she had all sorts of spots on her lungs, and was in the hospital for 6 days, she couldn't breathethey never found cancer nor what put her in the hospital, but she had been on some new drug and had gained weight and couldn't breathe, she was in congestive heart failure and they got 19 pounds of fluid out of her with iv diuretics, and she probably had a virus in her heart, because she had "vegetation" on a valve. All the lung spots went away and the valve cleared up too. They never figured out what was wrong, and had specialists up the wazoo consulting...
Try to stay in a good place, it's okay to be at peace with an outcome, but please don't give up before you know what you might be fighting! Staying upbeat is much better for your immune system!
Post back and let us know what the story is., and remember, this forum and your GS NEED you! :kiss3:
lol CIPRO damned things are not cheap, i had to get generics  nothing since. ive yet to go back for followup xray, dread and whatnot and i have to ahem temporarily change my address, so i can get an xray and not have to apy er prices
I wish you the best Yama :thumb:
And Teek.. That was a great post, great advise "Try to stay in a good place, it's okay to be at peace with an outcome, but please don't give up before you know what you might be fighting! Staying upbeat is much better for your immune system!"
Stay strong
Yama,
I'm sorry to hear of your medical problems. Take care of yourself. Your health is the most important thing and should be your first priority.
In your honor, I'm going to vote for a candidate who supports universal health care. Getting well is hard enough without trying to figure out how you'll pay for all this! A friend of mine with no insurance had a heart attack last October and had to be mediflighted to a hospital, where she was in ICU for several days. She and her husband own a convenience store and they'll probably end up declaring bankruptcy and losing the store over her medical bills.
Yama, don't wait to go back, just GO, even pneumonia is serious and if it's bacterial you need antibiotics for it if it's showing on x-rays like that, and if it's viral you need medical support. They'll tell you if you can just go home and take it easy or not, if you can be treated as an out patient they'll do that. Also for your kidneys if you have pain, you may need another course of antibiotics. X-rays and antibiotics don't cost that much that it's worth risking your life over, both conditions can take you out if not treated, and they can be treated pretty easily most of the time.
Bills can be paid $20. a month as long as you make a payment every month they can't do much about that! ERs HAVE to treat you if you go to a public hospital, whether you have money or not, that's why the healthcare system is busted, from treating so many illegals with no money; in the Southwest they've bankrupted and closed a lot of hospitals by coming across the border to have their kids. It takes medical care away from legal citizens. (I feel sorry for them but it upsets me that people I know can't get care because of it. I don't want to start a debate with anyone, go look it up, it's a real problem).
But really, we'd rather have you here posting than post a memorium to you!
Oh shaZam! Yama! :o
Are you in the clear now?
Get your ass in the hospital if something comes up or I'LL come down there and drag you in. :)
i am sorry to hear about this....i know exactly how you feel
Yama, there are many ways to get your healthcare taken care of, but priority one is staying in good spirits and making it through. Technically, no urgent care or emergency care facility can deny you necessary treatment regardless of whether they are public or private and if pushed will always provide the care, though if the case is less than an immediate life threatening emergency private hospitals can reroute you to a public facility. The fines imposed upon them for refusing necessary care are much steeper than most medical bills, so it's in their best interest to give you the care. Find the name of a good PI lawyer in the area, you don't even have to call him just have the number and name to throw around if they give you shaZam!. Generally, the definition of 'necessary' from a legal standpoint is liberal enough to cover preventative medicine when there is reasonable suspicion to believe there could be a problem.
Check into the indigent care program at your local hospital, many hospitals will write off care for people meeting certain standards.
Dammit, yama, take care of yourself or I'm gonna come up there and drag you into the hospital by towing you behind my Duc.
heh id support universal healthcare if teh congrees, could manage its money better. ( waste and whatnot). but right now, NO ONE there could or would be qualified to manage a Mcdonalds. tehyd be fired in 2 minutes

I've had dealings with Rottweilers that were more pleasant than trying to get an insurance company to pay a $%^&# claim that should have been payed immediately. I'd happily take a single-payer system (even run by the government) over one that values profit over service.
heh, I still have a court date suing my own insurance company over my hit and run. Legally it's an open and shut case, but they're insistent on giving me more money :dunno_white: (Policy limits go out the window when you go to court generally)
heh im still talking to mr vicdin :/ takes care of aches, had a vlid scrip so im not too concerned. eventually ill take care of xray, just have to establish a knox county residence. ( not hard at all. ex gf said i cn use her addy)

if you need to talk pm me and i will give you my home phone number. i have gone through what you are going through. the people here on gstwin have been awesome. they have become my support system and like family to me. they are all great, very understanding and will bend over backwards to help you. except terry i hate him
I too well know what you are going through as well. Don't know if you remember but I pretty much spent the whole month of February in the hospital. I fought the government for three years to get disability. I was turned down while getting evaluated for a heart transplant. They said I was educated and could talk on a phone so I wasn't disabled! I had a six month stretch w/o any insurance and a visit of three weeks in the hospital with a week of that in ICU 150,000 I'm 27 and will be in debt the rest of my life. I was told hospital bills really don't hurt you but at my job I had to go through a four hour interview about my finances. I've not hear anything back and am afraid I will lose a good part-time job because of it. With the disability I only get 900 a month 100 comes out for medicare and rent is 700 leaves me 100 to pay my utilities. Forget insurance for car and bike and the bike payment!
If you ever want to talk to blow off some steam PM and I'll send my cell number. Also, this might help. You live in Tennessee right?

thank god i am covered under veterans affairs...my chemo and meds were 6000 a month for almost a year. that did not include tests or doctors appointments. America need universal health care.

Dear god Yama....if they're only gonna charge you $65 for the X-rays...go tomorrow I'll paypal you the $65...I know what its like to have no insurance, I know what its like to need help and not be able to get it. I got lucky and the system worked for me..Medicaid paid most of my bills... stop putting it off, don't make excuses, and GO. I pay more to fill my damn gas tank right now...you're life is worth way more than a tank of gas...
Email me your address and I'll send you some cheese. Email only.
ive gotta call them, and see if teh same rate applies to "outpatient" services. for some reason i dont think it does, but ill find out prolly tomorrow
i know with all the stress that goes along with having cancer tends to make one self medicate with alcohol BUT it does more harm than good.....take it from someone who has gone through...still going through... the same thing you have
heh ive no idea as to what it is yet, ill find out when i can get teh xrays done. i might be a bit macabre and make one of em my avatar
You can talk to the hospital and if you are paying cash many times they will reduce the rate. they also will do payment plans as low as five bucks a month. Also, try local churchs I remember when I didn't have insurance a church (now my church) saved my life. They helped run a ministry health center one of the doctors that attended the church volunteered there he helped me get my heart meds for free for three months and now he is my primary doc and my friend. It can't hurt to ask.
As far as the medicaid goes I know how it is. In Florida it is run by the department of children and family. The lady told me that if I got pregnant I could get food stamps, medicaid, and a monthly stipened. Ok I can't take care of myself so let's bring a child into the world so the government can take care of it! She said well we really don't help single people if you read the sign it says department of "children and Families". I was so disgusted I started getting chest pain and ended up back in the hospital!
Also, keep talking once you start holding it in or using self-medication it is not a good road trust me. Now my x-rays would be real interesting you can see my defibrillator (can read the serial number creepy), the wires that go to my heart, my filter that would keep another blood clot from going to my lung. Pretty cool huh!
Take care and if I can help shoot me an e-mail or pm!
Mary S.
meh, my left arm is both numb ( diabetic issues) and on fire im assuming not from that, joints are hurting, and chest is too. ( on right side)within the next hour or so, if it dont get much better, im going to have to head that way again
And Yama. Please remember if you need some Help I'm Sure we would all be Glad to Help out.Your a UFOB and Us UFOB's take Care of Each other. :thumb:
i can attest to the love, compassion and caring of the members of this board. i loved them all and just don't know what i would do with out them
ehhh im gonna hold off. arms subsided a bit. i wanna go for a ride tomrorow, lol, so ill prolly see what tomorrow brings. for some reason, ive not been in much of a riding mood lately
Is your diabetes in check? If not the nerve issues can cause all you were talking about. Also, can affect the kidneys cardiovascular system. As an EMT you need to go back to the hospital. Please! If you don't do it now when you finally do it will be worse and more expensive!
Stop being a man and just go. It's not like they can send you to debtors prison anymore.
Mary S
well, TBH ive not been doing too good of a job keeping it in line. better recently but on a grade level, a d+maybe a c
kinda hard to do when i have to self finance my supplies/insulin  and test strips were last on the list. again, due to cost. insulin of ocurse being first. no way around that. and my pump supplies are donations. ive got almost a years worth.
most of my debt asside from my car and house is medical. when i didn't have insurance, i didn't care how much it cost to get me better, i'd go. of course, i'd usually wait until i was dog sick as in can't hardly move or anything sick. then i'd go to the ER. the ER is not allowed to turn you away no matter if you can pay or not, insurance or not. they are legally obligated to treat you. now granted, their job is to merely make sure you aren't gonna die immediately so many places that's all they'll do. but any medical care is better than none. keep us posted.
imwaiting until ihaveto go or my shaZam! shuts down again. ( it almsot did the other night, ) but thank god it didnt. but soon ive got to get the followup xray. just gotta find aplace which will do it. gotta call around. and sell something to pay the bill. lol, anyhoo, no worries O0
oh i went to st marys north ( in knoxville tn) they treated me with dignity. and what i considered comforting was having a clergyman at any time i wanted on. which i didnt use. me and god had our own talking time, plus prayers were sent over teh pa. which i loved, and no one objected to either. i guess, no matter how it turns out. if it turns out to be cancer. god firbid, i doubt i will fight it, ive been far to hard on myself. if its my diabetes shutting shaZam! down, again i doubt ill fight it. im not going to deprive someone of a second chance, if theyve not hastened their problem. i mean all of this is subject to change, but whatever it is is still going on, ive just gotta have it checked. which i will. , looking into options tho. still gotta call teh radiology folks to check into prices, and also walk in clinics etc :thumb:
Now I know there are churchs in Tennessee get your tail to one and ask for help! They will do it! Also, go to the hospital and talk to one of their financial officers. I talked to one at Florida hospital and they just cleared out whatever I owed. Said they had a charity fund for those who are sick and truly need it. Go talk to one you never know what happens! It takes some work but will be worth it. Trust me I've told friends many times begging for help was more work was harder than working a 9-5! So, it is rough but you gotta do it if you wanna live half way healthy.

E M A I L me your "snail mail" address and I can send you some "jack" to help you out. No p.m.'s please, and for God's sake if not for mine.............DO SOMETHING about this. You are starting to "freak me out". I don't freak easily but you've succeeded. If it's a medical problem, you need to see the filthy stinking doctor. If it's anything else, you need to fuckin' STOP whatever you're doing to exacerbate the prob.. You CAN'T "play around" and "fiddle fart" as your system goes into shutdown!! At least email me and let me know "what is going on" in the process. TooGoofy has given you some sound advice. Please follow it. And.........email me.......
yama, I feel for ya, but you have to start taking care of yourself. serously. that means your meds, all the things you need to take care of yourself become a priority. there are programs to get some of it free. My mom has been disbetic for 30+ years and about 5 yrs ago lost use of her kidneys. she's not in good shape these days. she didnt take her condition seriously enough.
take care of yourself. You mean a lot to many people. okay, not here but somewhere, lol...

Yama, it's too easy to take another Vicodin or a shot or both when something hurts or is scary to face, but I almost crashed and burned taking ibuprofen for a sore back that was really a kidney, and thinking my severe chills were just that I couldn't afford to run the heat (December in SoCal) and that work was more important that seeing a dr. I couldn't pay. I thought I was dizzy because I wasn't eating much because I fed my old dog first. I thought I was having severe night sweats that soaked my clothes and the sheets because I piled on too many blankets for the chills. No, I was running a spiking fever! Like 102 when it went up. It was one of the roughest times of my life. BUT if I hadn't decided to listen to that inside vice that said "You are really sick!" and gone to the ER, I would not be here now, I would not have the best buddy I have now in my hubby, I would not have gotten to know my Mom better, and I would have not been there to take care of my dog until she died, or my friends who needed me desperately years later.
So there are reasons to make sure you stick around. You just may not know what they all are yet.
So you can see there are people here who care enough to tell you just how to get help, and who are worrying about you, now let them know you care enough about them to go take care of yourself!
Okay, that was my "mom" type rant. Now go get your x-rays and your antibiotics, and your Glucophage or whatever!
no glucophage here. im on the pump, and insulin, still in teh process of trying to find out. where to get the xray from. seems the only wy ill get it done there, is to go to the ER again. i want to avoid that if at all possible
update: went to ER today, symptoms somewhat on teh return.i tried local hospitals, no dice. nothign to compare new xray to , spent 2 hours on phone, and finally went back to original hosp and soonest i can get in is monday at 6am. im going to go on tuesday, ive GOT to help my father monday. one day wont kill me

if it works out good, my ass is getting drunk tuesday night to celebrate :thumb:
If all goes good , Ill get u a Beer on the night :thumb: ull have to gimme ur paypal to sort u out a Pint of The finest

If it was bad they would have mentioned something
Sounds gd 2 me buddy :thumb:
hope all goes well
when is the dr going to let you know ???
well they are ( even wit their education) just rdiological techs. i had seen the originals. from teh first of april. ( when i was in teh hospital) i saw the mass err clouded area, doc scary was referrring to. i just wanted to compare that pic, from emmory to the recent one. , they wouldnt let me do it  :dunno_white:, idk office visits run, around 65-75, so if i must, ill find someone involved with that hospital, whether there, or tehir office, and set up an appointment of some sort :thumb:
