so Im finally starting my project. The start is the R6 tail

So far I just mached up the seat bracket and tached the brackets Im not going to do the main welding with my welder but I will do all the tach welds then grind them down and get a real welder, Mine is an 80amp flux welder no gas required. Will this weldwer work for the frame or do I need more than 80/90 amps

Looking good so far, I've been interested in doing this mod for quite some time. Maybe some day if I get a welder and learn how to I may give it a go. Keep us updated. :thumb:
Nice Dude! :thumb: I like your Isuzu Trooper also..I had one some time ago. They take a licking and keep on ticking! Wish I still had it... ;)
yeah they do Its on its second motor
WOW. Next to the 180 rear tire, that is my next venture ( different subrame). Your welder is more then enough just dont use too much heat. I would love to help out with this and even weld everything up for you:). The hardest part of welding is actually seeing what is going on and controlling it. Is your mask self dimming?
How much was the tail? I have my vulture eyes on my friends wrecked sv650 with a perfect subframe and tail fairing.
were the hell is Hawthorne anyways?
mike
edit: wait a minute, you are going to fab up the fairings from r6 only? Damn thats the hard way of doing things. I am just going to do a subframe swap.
edit#2: I bought a 600rr subframe with fairing and battery tray for 50$ and I already have the right tailight for it so thats the direction Im going and also an undertail exhaust.
what colors are you gonna go wtih in the end?
keep us updated with this one, it looks like exactly what i wanna do with mine. :thumb:
Im still thinking of getting an r6 subframe but not sure money is tight. I got the tail for $50 $70 shipped. Hawthorne Is near Los Angelas. Im going to paint it satin black with red pinstriping(sticker pin stripe of course)
^^^^^^^^^^check 1st post
So today I mached up the subframe to fit the angle of the rear cowl.

never mind the angle of this shot the wheel is centered
(http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/559/cimg0281xd9.th.jpg) (http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg0281xd9.jpg)
next I need to get some small 3/4 channel and box in the frame for support.
looks like a really perfect fit wouldnt you say? I dont see any part of the subframe sticking out at all.
ehh just a tad bit is there but thats caue the fairing is hittign one of the brackets. so the easiest way for me was to cut the top frame rail in half at an angle and cut the lower 7/8 of the wat to the top and bend the frame up weld some channel to the bottom of the cuts and box the frame
So I finished welding the tabs for the seat and welding shut the frame sections I cut and bent. and now I have the undertail mached up but it still needs a little trimmng to fit the tail light.

the tail fairing is from an older r6 and the undertail id from a newer  I didnt notice during purchasing si they dont fit perfect but being painted flat black it will look fine.
the finish product should look like an SV650S
so its all done? can we get a side shot:)
Looking good. :thumb:
What rearsets are you running?
No not just yet, I still need either a rear seat or cowl cover but no money for either. But it is ridable once I trim the undertail to fit the stock GS light, and bolt down the headlight fairing. The rearsets are the Ebay knockoff yosh sets, but they work
so really to make it work you just needed to weld on a few tabs to bolt it on?
is the battery tray and everything like that still stock? it seems like it should have been alot more work than that haha.

I was reading some posts about those. They look good, was it a lot of work to get them to fit?
It was a lot of work to get the tail to fit, You have to cut all four tubes of the frame and bend the rear up so that it follows the lines of the tail, then weld the cuts closed(not easy) then grind the welds down and get tube half tubes(L shaped) and place them over the welds and weld them to the frame for more strength.
As far as the rearsets go I just needed to make a mounting bracket and mod the shift linkage

Cool, thanks.
Keep us updated on the project.
It seems like we're always getting progress updates and never any finished bikes! :icon_mrgreen:
