Title: Oregon
Post by: addison on May 02, 2008, 09:27:34 AM
First, I am a proud owner of a 2004 GS500F. But, I wanted to survey the group on traveling to Oregon. I will be there for business in Portland, OR in July and will be there over the weekend and can travel to any part of the state during the weekend. I was hoping to rent a bike so I could ride along the coast and canyons all weekend.

Does anyone have advice, experiences, names of rental places, tips, etc etc?

Thanks to all

Woohoo! My home state.

All I want to say here is that highway 1 along the Pacific Coast from Half Moon Bay all the way through N. Cal and Oregon to Washington is one of the most stunning highways on the planet (and I've toured around a decent bit ... Australia can hold a candle to rt 1, but few other places). The cagers are bloody insane though. Tight turns, v. fast, cutting corners ... essentially doing what you'll be doing on the bike.

Pictures! And have an awesome trip.

If you do go down Hwy 101 (coast highway) to northern California, consider coming back via Hwy 199 (great twisties), and then maybe head up Hwy 62 to Crater Lake, head up Hwy 97 north along the east side of the Cascades, and cross back over to Portland on Hwy 26, being sure to stop at Timberline Lodge. I've heard of a place called "Oregon Motorcycle Rentals" in Oregon City (near Portland), but don't know of anyone that has ever used them.

I'm in Oregon but likely too late to help the poster- don't know about bike rentals, but the Oregon coast is beautiful and from portland one could easily ride up mt.hood to see Timberline lodge then continue across to Hood River which is fabulous, and ride I-84 back into Portland for a sweet loop.
