any ideas?
i was riding around today, at low speed, maybe 10-15 mph, when i felt a bit of a chug, then a knock, almost like a bolt falling out of the frame. then, 2-3 seconds later, the engine died. i'm not sure if the knock was an engine knock or what. and there was no ill performance prior to it just cutting out. i tried to re-start, and got it going after about 6-7 times. but with the throttle wide open it could only get the rpm's up to 1000-1200. and it could only sustain for about six seconds before shutting off again.
my oil level is fine.
it has fuel in it; i had just filled up and gone about 10 miles on this tank. and i tried playing with the petcock.
i'm pissed off & frustrated and have to call the shop tomorrow to arrange its towing & diagnosis. but can anyone here give a heads up on what this might be?
Sorry to hear about your bike man! No idea what the knock sound could be?
But the fact that you have the throttle open and it hits 1200 RPM might mean that the throttle cable has come loose and is not in its correct position?!
Just a though?!
Stay Safe
if it doesnt start, check for the damn fuse.
It sounded some what similar to the problem I had with my GS. Did you happen to see lots of white smoke coming out the exhaust when you started the bike?
I never figure out what was the problem. I am interested in what the shop has to say. Is it possible it is the side-stand switch caused the problem?
no white smoke. how hard is it to drain the fuel on one of these things???
I'm guessing here but I'd check the choke and throttle cables. That knocking (if you suspect a bolt) may have been one of the bolts holding the cables in place. If it was running fine otherwise it will likely be something along those lines...something that will have failed catastrophically causign immediate poor running.
You may have no fuel supply to your carbs...Check the drain screw with the petcock in on or res (not prime) and see how much fuel flows out, then put in prime and see..if the fuel flows in prime but the floats were near empty oitherwise your petcock vaccum line is bad. Ride it in prime and see and that may give you a clue...
Cool.
