Title: Modded GS triple for Kat FE
Post by: average on May 05, 2008, 08:57:08 PM
For those of you that have done that Kat FE swap and dont have the money for the fancy instruments, you could take your GS and Kat triple to a welder.

With their powers combined you get...

After a little scuffing and paint, of course.

Hope you like

How much did it cost?

Not that I use GS gauges but it does look good.  :thumb:

I'm not, and it came out pretty good. Just finished painting it and will put it on in the morning.

I was planning on doing this exact same thing, I'm interested to see pictures of how it looks. Hopefully I can get it welded up this weekend.

The only issue that you may possible have is grinding of a hair of the outer "ear" so that the hex head bolt can be tightend properly to secure the triple. That took 5 minutes with a grinder to rectify.

I'll print out your pictures when I take it to my welder, hopefully we can get it done fairly easily, he does good work.

I didn't weld it myself, the 2 bits are of varying sizes and they are both cast aluminum ... yea I can weld that, heck I cant even weld thick steel sheite with an arc welder ...
I took that to a experienced welder who actually makes extended blingarms and welds wheels other than the crap I drop off in front of him. He also welded my GR piston after I had to machine its rings out. That dude is one good welder. He will just take forever though. ...
Cool.

And Diaz - I thought we were swapping it for the one I didn't mill and tap for the V heads.
Cool.

I just saw the pics ... diaz - you took off a lil too much, I said dremel tool ... though it is irrelevant cos its gets hidden by the dash. Anyway, I will get that other one powdercoated and we can trade next time we meet. Now your dash plate is also powdercoated .. ok so you want powdercoated bar fittings too ... ironically I found those, just not the triple ... grrrrr ... anyway, I'll get the stock triple with the GS ears welded on done in glossy black and bring it to ken's next time.
BTW I can have this done for people if they want - $50 with Kat and GS triples supplied by you. Powdercoating not included.
Cool.
