Title: EZ Pass
Post by: zenn on May 07, 2008, 11:19:27 AM
Anyone else here use EZ-Pass. Where do you mount it? Dont have a wind screen yet, might not get one.
I noticed on the front wheel fender, there is a flat spot. Anyone tried affixing something there, or would I just be setting myself up for fail.

Couldn't you just put it under the seat? You're talking about the toll thing right?

I think they work as long as they aren't rapped in tin foil or something. I know they get picked up from the glove box.

I carry it in my pocket. If it doesn't work, someone comes over to scan it. Else, they have my plate to cross reference against the EZPass records, and I can just say it ain't working right. If you have a NYS motorcycle reg, you can request 50% off Thruway tolls btw. Check NY's EZPass site.

You can put up to 4 vehicles/EZPASSes on your single billing account. Motorcycle ones are the same except have a giant M on them. Some tolls are cheaper and that Thruway thing is a program that you have to spend and extra 5 seconds requesting.

Funny, when I had mine on the bike mounted to the windscreen. Nothing! When i had it in the console of the car because I forgot to put money on it got charged twice! The ones here in Fl. have become a PTA. People are getting their license suspended left and right but never get notified. They get pulled over and off to county they go. Wonder how much of our tax dollars are being wasted with it. We even have some exits off the turn pike that will only take sun pass (what it is called down here). I thought that was illegal to make you pay 25 bucks for a device so you can get off on a certain exit?!?!?

Ahh, but what do I know!

I velcro'ed mine on the inside of my tank bag (pretty rare I ride without it) and it picks it up.
Beside even though I am on the TX NTTA system (southern ez-pass corp) the rules are the same, if it doesnt read it, they take a picture and the plate is associated with card and will simply charge it... that is when the system acxtually "sense" the bike.

I have gone without the card in my bag (testing theory) for a month, and then checked my bill, and founs about 1/3 of the time I pass (middle of lane as I would normally ride not evading the sensor) the sensor doesnt see the bike. (free pass thru - camera not triggered, ring bell doesnt  ring off etc).

I always have it on the bike, because, NTTA has patroll that checks "ring thru'es" by pulling a cop that all he does it run after "bell ringers" and check if they have an ezpass device. if they do, they wave them off after testing card, otherwise (I beleive) give you a ticket or warning....

I have one account, 2 Jeeps, 1 Motorcycle with individual cards.

Cheers

My friend and I were just talking about this the other day. He wanted to switch everything over to RFIDs, and I thought about velcroing the pass to my helmet.  :cookoo: Glad to to see that there are good alternatives. I like the tank bag idea.

yeah I'm sure my license was suspended (knowing my luck) because I forgot to update the pass when I got my handicapped tag for the bike. Had it attached to windscreen in plain site and sure enough the red light came up and the vehicle behind me was on my tail so I couldn't get over to talk with one of the attendants. I don't know I'm just not fond of it but one of the exits I use gives you no choice.
