Title: Did some more work on my bike today...
Post by: pjm204 on May 07, 2008, 10:20:01 PM
Well recently I got a 2001 GS and passed my 99 GS on to my brother, I had done some work to the 99(bars, springs, rear suspension) but the 2001 was bone stock. So today I worked on it for a couple hours and then rode it for awhile, it is running very nice.

I rejeted the carbs, 22.5, 65, 147.5---I didn't add any washers but there was a slight hesitation when I tried to give it full throttle at around 6k so I might have to throw some washers in. I also added a lunchbox, and a supertrapp full exhaust which sounds awesome, 9 disks in there. I think I am going to steal the 89 clip ons from the 99 gs since I paid for them. After inspection tomorrow I am going to cut all the turn signal stalks shorter and do a rear fenderectomy. I might throw some springs in the forks but I am hesitant because the ones on the 99 are too hard for me, the stock ones on the 01 actually aren't too bad. anyway, I'll post pics soon

Just buy some 10 dollar short stalk signals.  They look so much nicer in the long run.

99 GS will take 89 clip on's, on an 01 they will clobber the tank. You need banana bars made by the Buddha -  (bars not available in stores, bars sold separately, bars not available at all, ongoing criminal investigation, batteries not included, some assembly required, item may vary from picture shown) ...
Cool.

Yea ,the 89 clip on's, hit the tank on any bike using the newer larger tank.Mine hit on my 89 but I have an 04 tank. You could try after market clip ons.
