Title: Choke problems on my new '08 GS500F
Post by: racefan29 on May 11, 2008, 06:10:28 PM
Just got my first bike last thursday.  When i start the bike i can't get the idle higher than 1500rpm with choke on full. Manual says to keep engine speed between 2000-3000rpm during warm up, using the choke.  My idle speed needs to be increased it is currently around 900rpm.  Could this be causing my choke problem?

Could be. Try increasing the idle rpm and see if this helps. To adjust the idle, you need to turn the big brass screw that hangs down between the carbs.

Ideally, the idle should be set to ~1200 rpm when the bike is fully warmed (i.e. after riding for 15 min.). If you set the idle to 1200 rpm when the engine is cold, you may find the idle shoots up when the bike is warm (called "hanging idle").

I agree with beRto.When I start my bike cold,it idles a 1500 and increases as the bike warms up.Warm idle should be 1200 rpm.If you have problems stalling, when pulling off from a stop, run it up almost to 1500 rpm when warm.
